Default Sport or SE?

I'm about to pick up a new Jeep jk, I'm doing the research... and as far as i can tell, the only difference between the sport and the SE are the wheels. Am i off there? If not, is the 2k+ jump in price worth it when buying the SE, because I'm looking through craigslist right now and I'm finding a ton of stock "gladiator" wheels. Some even have a fair amount of tread left (as a poor college kid i would run my tread bald before forking over the cash for the replacement), and the prices are rarely over 500 for the set. My first upgrade would definitely be a nice set of tires too.

Does anyone have any experience with this? is there more to it than picking up used boots for my jk, or will the savings make sense... because if it does i could think of a few other things to do with a new jeep.

shoot, even upgrading to a barely used 2013 rubi wheel set would be around 1500.

What's an SE? Are you referring to "Sport" vs "Sport S"?

As I remember, the S package adds AC, aluminum wheels with bigger tires, a leather steering wheel, and chrome trim on the wheel and shifter. There are two versions, with and without automatic transmission. There are no suspension or mechanical differences.. I opted to buy the base Sport, with AC and auto, and then upgrade the wheels myself. Saved about $750 off the package. Didn't want the leather wheel or care about the chrome trim.

The 'SE' is a TJ thing, so you're not in the same ballpark. The JK has Sport S and U. I don't recall which is which but I bought the cheaper one with 16" steelies and it's got a/c. If you're going to toss the wheels for gladiator wheels anyways then go with the cheaper one. They don't have power windows or locks. Being in your position a few years back ("broke college kid"), go buy a used jeep and save the $$$. It's "only a couple thousand" but that money could be easily spent on tires or even gas.

Is the 3.73 an option in the base sport? Otherwise it comes with the 3.21 gearing..

Yes, the 3.73 is an option for the base sport. I got 2 options on my otherwise stock 2dr- a/c and 3.73's. Did you see there's an 08 X for sale for $8900 on the forum? That's less than half of a new one.....damn near 1/3 of the new one. Even if you have to travel to get it.......may be worth looking at.

YES sorry, i totally meant the S versus the sport. But I have to agree with the last post, all those new grad incentives and stuff were starting to sway me away from the whole used jeep idea. I still may go for a package wit the steelies though. Because chrome and leather... meh. AC however is a must, I'm too damn fat in this MD humidity, theres a good chance the pool of sweat under my seat would rust a whole through the floor.
