For those who have regeared a 2012, did you have to get a tuner? I was told it would go into limp mode if you don't. Really didn't want to have to pay the extra $150 for one, because I think it's pointless with a 6 speed. 60mph is actually 64-65, not that hard

I didn't buy one for a while with a six speed. On the manual trans it really doesn't matter. It does matter on a auto trans, because the computer shifts it. There is a guy I know that just shifts the auto himself. I finally broke down, and bought the procal. It is nice to have the speedo read the right speed. I real don't know how much it would affect the Nanny Systems on the JK, because mine are turned off 90% of the time except for inspection.

Default well...

One came with my jeep, it's nice to know the speedo is dead on. Actually it's within 2 MPH at 60 vs my iphone GPS app (Dashboard).

I also enabled the DRL with it, so I thought that was cool.

You could always go for a drive and see if limp mode turns on, but I thought that was only for the automatic transmissions?

what gears did you go to? I have a 2012 on 35s (actually 34.5s I think) with an automatic, and it's got plenty of GO for me.

(Rubicon, so it's on 4.11s)

I have the AEV one, ProCal maybe? its got some dip switches and works great.

I have 3.21's and a rubicon transfercase. It's really not that bad on the road and with the transfercase I do just fine in the rocks. I am either going to 4.10 or 4.56.

That's what I thought. Limp mode sounded like a way to sell me something I didn’t need. I could really care less about the speedo.

Default speedo

the problem isn't the speedo. it's the ESP/rollover mitigation software.

if it thinks you are going faster/slower than you really are, it will or will not intervene when it should.

I didn't think I'd like the computer controlling stuff, but I took an exit ramp in the wet too fast, and it settled things down so well, I thought... ya know.. that ain't so bad! I didn't end up off the road or upside down.

Yes, it was 100% my fault for going to quickly on an unfamiliar off ramp. But this JK rides so nice I didn't realize how fast I was going.

While I don't like the nanny state, and always want an OFF switch for these things. I kinda like having it...

I already have 35's on and no problem with ESP or traction control. Would the regear effect speedo moreso than 32's to 35's?

well, if anything, drive it and see what happens. you can do the math to find the speed, or just download a free app to your iphone or android and see.

i don't see how it would hurt to do the gears, then go for a few test drives.

if you need the procal thing, just get it later.

I'm just wondering for those that regeared a 2012 and didn't recal if it will go into limp mode. Never been in limp mode, but it doesn't sound very driveable for a 60 mile commute to and from work But according to Metaldemon, doesn't sound like he had any issues
