Default 33x12.50 R17 on stock 17" wheels

I have the 17" rims that came stock on my 08 X, i would like to eventualy put 17X9 wheels with 33x12.5 tires on my JK... my question is will the stock 17" tires fit on a 17x9 aftermarket wheel safely, or would it be better to put a 33x12.50 tire on stock 17" wheel. I know ill need wheel spacers... I ask only because due to wife i can only buy wheels OR tires but not both. so what would yall suggest or is there a better option that im not thinking of?

33x12.50 R17 on stock 17" wheels , is anyone running this combo

If you go to the bfgoodrich website pick a tire and pick sizes it will show what tires fit on what rim size.

I don't think 12.50s will fit on stock rims.

Go with the 33x12.5 on stock 17" wheels.

I'll be doing it Tuesday, as lots of others here have. I don't plan on using wheel spacers as they are an inspection violation in PA. I'll be doing the 3/8" washer steering bumpstop mod to keep them from rubbing.

I put the skyjacker 2"bb on this past weekend. $121 and 2hrs to install with the help of 1 other). Add that to your tires and you'll have a great start!

I plan on 3 or 4" and 35's when the 33's wear down, by then any long term effects of larger lifts tires should be identified and resolved. Also gives me time to save up for the gear swap i'll probably want to do.

here ya go. the only problem i have is it rubs the sway bar at full lock. i ve been doing medium truck tires for 7 years, you don t have to go by what the manufacturer says. the narrower wheel will actuall help keep it on the wheel better when you air down. and it doesn t really affect anything except it makes the tire crown a little more because the wheel isn t wide enough to pull the beads apart. you DON T want to put the factory tires on 9" wheels. they will be hard to get the beads to seat to air it and it would over stretch the beads and that is a bad thing.

here is some pics.....

here is one with the skyjacker 2" BB

Greasemonkey85 thanks for the pics!

I've been trying to see the skyjacker 2" w/33x12.5 on the factory rims. Any chance you have a straight on shot? I'd like to see how much (if any) the tires stick out.

i ll have to get one. i ve only had it for 2 weeks and haven t taken many pics yet. but no the tires don t stick out. they are in about a inch or so, but i ll be ordering spacers soon. i m getting spacers so i can take them off for inspection, plus i really don t like any wheels for it. that is just me.

hey were in pa are you? we are going up to rausch creek on sunday 10th, if you wanna come let me know. it will be my first hardcore 4x4 trip. my brother in law is bringing his 2 dr jk w/ 2.5 tf bb and 35" tires. he has been on blue/black trails with it. also i will be going thursday night to join blue mountain jeep alliance.

here is a front and rear view. as you can see they don t stick out at all..... yet the front is actually closer to sticking out than the rear. i want to sit down and actually measure and might go 1.5" spacers in the back and 1.25" spacers in the front.
