Default Front pinion seal leaking bad. Help

So my front pinion seal is jacked bad. I pulled the axle shafts to drive home. Any reason to pull the front driveshaft? I remember a thread arguing to pull or not pull it but can't remember why?

I drive without my front driveshaft for months at a time. I usually don't put it on till I get to the Offroad park.
Gets a little better MPG.

With out axles shafts your front gears shouldn't move. You'd burn up your gears if you have no fluid and they were moving.

I blew out a small side axle shaft and had to drive 90miles, so I pulled both front shafts out and left the drive shaft in place. Those little bolts are a pita and strip easy.

Any reason to not just replace the pinion seal..?? Heck of a lot easier to do than pulling the axles..

You have to pull the carrier to change the seal and line up the locker again. Etc. I know how to pull axle shafts. Never done the other. Andddd my gears are burnt. I'm. 2wd now. Lol

No from driving with the shafts in and thinking I had a small leak which was essential an open river. I won't get into the specifics of that but let's say I should have checked it earlier. I pulled the axle shafts so I could keep driving without it exploding. It's had a small grinding noise up to about 30 then started whirring really loud above thirty.
