Default Talk me into or out of this wheel/tire combo...

Vehicle is a '13 JKU sport with 3.21s and 6spd manual. I'm set on the MB TKO wheels 16x8.5 w/ 4.51" backspace. I was originally going to go with the Goodyear Duratrac 285/75/16 which list 32.8" as the height. Real world numbers I've seen in the 31+" range. My other option is the Duratrac in 315/75/16 which are listed at 34.6" but real world heights I've read from 33.5"-34". I've got a stubby front bumper and bushwacker flat flares ready to go so should be able to run the 315s with just minor seam trimming from what I've read. I'm NOT planning on lifting it just yet so that is a consideration. I keep seeing pics of the 285s (33s) and just think they look too much like stock size SRAs (mine measure 31" on the jk). Since the 315s aren't a true 35" tire and more like a big 33", would I hate life with the 3.21s and no lift? Anyone running this combo? Thoughts? I want these on my jeep yesterday! Any help would be great.

*Also, will not be doing any extreme offroading/rock crawling. Any offroading will be mild by most of your standards.

For the type of driving you will be doing, go with what you think will look the best. With the 3.21s, you will see a drop in MPGs, the larger you go with the tires. But, hey, we drive Jeeps the MPGs aren't that good to begin with.

I see in your sig that you have the 315 duratracs. I'm not terribly concerned with the MPGs, but any idea what you are getting? Thanks for the reply.

Why don't you get an actual 35" tire.. Then your 34"+ on most good brands.. Nitto, toyo, not sure on others but I know bf is horribly off on actual size.

My 35" km2's measured exactly 34.75" on the wheel when I got em. Right around 34" on the jeep

I say go for it! Skip the 33's! I have 35's and 3.21 6 speed on my 2012 sport and I commute 30 miles each way to work. You will lose 6th gear, but 5th gear puts you at a nice rpm range for highway (2400 ish at 70). If I drive under 65, I can see up to 16.5-17 mpg on the dash (actual may be higher cuz I never reprogrammed). Average is usually around 15 mpg. As for power, it's not that bad at all. I still tow around a 2500 lb boat/ trailer several times a week. Hope this helps

I'm not positive, but pretty sure the 315/75/16 Duratrac is considered a 35" even though it measures crazy small. I really just wanted to stay with a 33", but didn't want to buy 33"s that turned out to be 31"s on the jk. I think a true 35" might suck too much with the 3.21s, and might cause more headaches than fun since I'm not planning to lift right away.

I'd take a little slower jeep with big tires than a fast jeep with smaller ones!

I will say, my biggest complaint about it was for rock crawling. Just stalled a lot. But I've since upgraded to a 4:1 tcase. But for your moderate wheeling needs shouldn't be a problem at all.

Damn, now this is what I was looking for! I'm hoping a lot of the posts about 3.21s with 35ish" tires are just exaggerating. I'm sure the jk is no powerhouse with them, but I'm perfectly happy cruising along. Thanks for the info
