Default Synergy Drag Link - flip- install gone funky

There are a couple of posts on here regarding this but I wanted to create my to get answers on my specific issue. So the 13/16" I now see is recommended so you don't over bore the hole but in actuality, you need a 7/8" and you won't need to grind out additional space to make the TRE a true fit.

Well if i would have known that before starting the install, I would have just bought the 7/8" and not dealt with having to bore out the 13/16" hole. Saying that, my hole was still a little too small so when I installed the TRE, I must have used a little too much force which now the split in the TRE is completely closed up and its not completely circle.

I figured when I installed the Synergy end, it would push into the TRE and straighten it out... WRONG, it put a small dent into the side. I removed everything and tried prying the TRE open a little which I was able to, but not enough.

3 things--- 1. My drag link end doesnt sit completely in the TRE, seems like its not sitting all the way in.
2. i'm going to stop tonight and buy a 7/8" bit to drill the hole correctly and fix the oval.
3. In case I am unable to spread the TRE back open and make it circle again, is there somewhere that I can pick up a TRE? Is this something an Auto store would carry or something I need to order from Synergy?

There's a pic in this thread showing the end nice and flush and flat which tells me that mine is completely effed up.

Advise from the experienced is appreciated! Thanks!

There was a huge thread on this very problem.
- synergy upgraded their joints to fit the JK better.
-people were using the 7/8 first noted in instructions, they were over sizing the hole,
-synergy revised to use 13/16 with a target hole of .850 (I think)
-A thicker adapter is now available for oversized holes.

I had the same issue. Drilled to 13/16 and destroyed the adapter. Way to tight and the tre would not fit.
I called Synergy and requested both original and bigger adapter.
I opened the hole up with a 7/8 and tried both,
The original adapter worked fine with the 7/8 hole.

According to Synergy. It's hard to hand drill and not oversize the hole. The 13/16 is supposed to allow for oversizing, and the original adapter should work.

Best advice .... Call synergy and obtain both adapters, re-drill the hole using 7/8. Try both and see which one works best.

Good luck .... Any questions you can PM me

Thanks man!!

I bought a 7/8" bit tonight which drilled out the access from not using this from the start and it made a perfect circle. I was able to salvage the original TRE bracket by slightly and carefully opening it up a little. The drag link end now sits perfectly flat and slides down into the TRE as it should.

A minor adjustment to the steering wheel and she's driving beautifully!!! Straight line, no awkward flighty loose wheel, and no more wobble!

I wouldn't let my wife drive it before because she wasn't aware of the awkward road handling and it could have easily tossed her into a side wall on the highway but now, I feel more comfortable with giving her the keys (well, not that I would, after all, it's MINE damnit!!, lol)...

For the next folks, use a 7/8 step bit. Drills it like butter and no risk of making it too big.

Sent from some string and a few tin cans.

I prefer the adapter if ever to revert to stock.

I agree. Somewhat. Haha. I have the exact same parts as you. I did the 13/16 drill bit. It was slightly small. Would up spending about 2 minutes with the drill and about 30+ minutes with a tiny drum roll bit on a dremmel. It fits great now too. The whole premise is to keep from OVERDRILLING for the novice mechanic. I think 7/8 IS perfect, but it has zero tolerance for a screw up. The idea of getting close, then gradually enlarging it is just safer. If you over drilled, I would think that getting out a welder and filling mistakes, then trying to re drill would be a much "hairier" experience than trying to hammer home a TRE adapter.

Glad you got done! And glad you are as happy with the results as the rest of us are. It is a worthy investment.
