Default New Jk owner - Questions (I read stickys)

I just bought a 2013 Red 2DR Sport Auto. I plan to do a lift/wheels/tires and indash navigation to replace the factory stereo. I have a few questions after reading all the info out there. The car is my DD. It will be used for some offroading (Beach/trails) in my spare time.

There seems to be conflicting info on a 2.5" lift. I think I am going with a 2.5" Teraflex lift with shocks. I know I will need 2" taller bumpstops.
- Is a new front driveshaft really needed? Will the non-serviceable joint wear out and fail with the 2.5" lift?
- Will the car still have the factory rake and need a leveling kit? (3/4" disk to go under front coils)

I want to do 35" tires. I wanted to go with GY Duratracs since they are the lightest and have great reviews for a DD but I dont see them in a 35" size.
-What is another 35" tire for a DD that still looks pretty aggressive? I plan to go with 17 or 18" XD Hoss Wheels with 3.5"-4.5" BS.

I want to replace the factory stereo with a unit that has GPS/Sat/bluetooth but they all seem to require modification.
-Is anyone running a unit that did not require a bunch of modification?

-Does Teraflex offer a forum discount code
-Which vendor is best to order the wheel/tire package from in your experience?
-Does Quadratec offer a dicount code for all other small stuff I want?

I appreciate all feedback. The forum has already provided me with a lot of useful info.

Don't forget about your gears, pushing 35's on 3.21's is doable, but 4.10's are recommended on a JK. It would be wise to gusset and sleeve the front axle at the same time of a gear install.

None taken. I test drove a 2012 with a 3" Lift and 35" PC Xtreme Terrain tires on I-95 and didnt mind it. This is not my first jeep I have modified. Maybe I will look at 34s

But it depends, too, on the size tires you end up with. I'm running 37's on an RK 2.5" kit and no additional bumpstop up front. Have yet to make contact with anything.
- Is a new front driveshaft really needed? Will the non-serviceable joint wear out and fail with the 2.5" lift? You really don't get into needing a new driveshaft until you hit 4" of lift. You will need the exhaust spacer, though.
- Will the car still have the factory rake and need a leveling kit? (3/4" disk to go under front coils) Will be level and no leveling kit needed.

In 35's, either the Nitto Trail grappler or Toyo Open Country. Both made in the same factory and have great wear and street manners.

Answered what I could. Hope it helps.

I've gone through the same process over the last six months. Here is what I have learned.

1. The Duratracs in a 315/70/17 is closer to 34". That said, many "35's" are slightly less than 35". I have the Duratrac's and love them. Also like that they are lighter than others. You can go for a Nitto if you want the extra half inch, but it comes with a lot more weight.

2. Lifts: Just be aware that very often for a 2-door, the actual lift is a lot higher than what the box says. I believe the TF 2.5" coil lift comes in closer to 3". Best bet is that lift or OME. Rock Krawler is awesome, but plan on closer to 4" there (and then you need to spend coin on drive shafts, etc).

The TF lift will fix the rake and comes with everything you need (bump stops, etc). Great kit for the price.

3. At 3" or less of lift, you will be fine with the stock drive shafts. Most will recommend an exhaust spacer. The real issue is at full droop, the rubber drive shaft boot touches the exhaust (or can if you have enough lift). Exhaust spacer fixes that. The angles are less than ideal, but a lot of people run the stock shafts without issue. Just be concious of that fact that you may need to replace them down the road.

4. 4.5" of back space or less is perfect for 35's.

Call Northridge!!! Those guys rock and their prices are consistantly the best that I have seen. Tell them you are from JK Forum and they will take care of you.

Thanks for the input. Should I opt for Fox racing shocks with the TF lift?

NorthRidges site is impossible to find anything

Quadratec offers free shipping to forum members. I always get my shipments fast from them too. As for wheels/ tires, Discount Tire Direct has a good selection, good prices and they will price match anything you find cheaper too. Ordered at least 10 sets of wheels or tires from them and they were perfect every time! Good luck with your search and future mods. Hope this info helps!

Which shocks to go with is a tough one. I can't stand the install process for Bilstein - ridiculous in my view. I also found they were really stiff on a 2-door. Fox are really nice, but I think to get the ride quality you want it is best to go with the Teraflex tuned Fox shocks. People seem to really like the adjustable Rancho 9000's, so that may be worth consideration.

You could also go with the shock extensions until you figure out what you want to do.

Yes, just call Northridge. Agree that their website needs some TLC (and faster network!).
