Default Removing Evap Canister permanantly? Anyone ??

Anyone know if you can remove the Evap canister and re-attach the vaccum hose somehow to make a sealed system? My JK is for offroad only and I don't care about warranty or passing an emissions test or trouble codes.

I have noticed in water the engine sputters and stops as I have an open system right now (I have ripped two canisters off and my lines are hanging open). I'm seeing If I can avoid buying a new canister/relocation brackets or skid. I'm not sure if this is true but I get the impression my fuel consumption may have majorly increased. Is this possible?? My goal is to conserve fuel mileage and seal the system.

Thanks

It has nothing to do with Mpg's. It gets the gas fumes out of the tank in a environmentally friendly way. The charcoal inside the canister turns the fumes into something, if not you have fumes from the tank leaking and fumes can catch and lead into the tank.

well If I'm running a higher risk for fire I'd rather buy a canister.

I'm thinking no one has done this, I have gone 1.5 years with no canister. I guess I'll just bite the bullet and put a new one on.

Thanks,

There is a purge valve that the ecu turns on to vent vapor gas tank to the engine. The evap canister is in the middle of that line. Its job is to absorb any raw fuel when venting the tank not to reach the intake manifold

Cars didn't have them until around the 60 and 70 most cars even into the early 90s had them removed due to high cost and poor design. Done properly you can remove it with minimal risk. However with ever increasing enforcement on emissions it can be risky especially on federal land like ORV parks. You will have fuel vapor pouring out from your jeep and if you do not take proper precotions you could hurt yourself or others.

2' 5/8ths PVC hose, cut the high side of bracket off, 4 1" bolts/nuts and drill 2 new holes near front. Relocate it above rear diff....done.
Cost to do this was $3 for me hose is what cost got it from auto zone.

Without it some will smell like a gas can on the trail....my red one got ripped off so I left it off....after hitting the trail and not letting anyone smoke near my jeep because of the fumes (2 jeeps behind me could.d smell it) I decided to do a quick relocate in the cheap...it cost me $3 for hose and a few minutes to do as well...

I bought a kit for my black one and it is just too easy to self do...so I have done my red one and now my 4dr as well...

Cel light and gas cap light are off and I do t hit it at all....

Leave it hooked up there's no loss of power just relocate and if you want or need to mess with something to mod there's TONS of other stuff..---

we dont have emmissions here so ive removed the canister from every vehicle ive ever had and have never had an issue from it. Its not like you have tons of vapors excaping and gatheriing arround your vehicle making it into a ticking time bomb. If you keep it in a garage it might cause an issue but i park outside and there is plenty of moving air to dispurse any vapors that may excape from the tank. I usualy just put on a inline fuel filter to keep anything from building a home in the vent line and just let it vent to atmosphere. Obviously dont let it vent right next your exaust maniford or anything.

WRONG!

just because you can remove something doesn't mean its smart..-im all about modifications and been running full on race trucks on the road for years finding creative ways to smog or ace a fix it ticket....that being said mine smelled nasty....Biglow will verify as will phrogmech that it smelled like a gas station around my jeep....the evap was ripped off and you could smell me.....
It was bad enough people behind me were asking who was smelling like gas lol...

haha, Well to be honest I don't smell gas often around my jeep. Like I said I have had it off for like 1.5 years. I just know it's no good having my lines hanging. As I said it's bad when I go in water. I also find my Mileage meter on the dash to be like 6 times higher than what it was while connected. I'm sure it's not actually burning that much but it seems to have thrown the computer in a loop.

I'm liking the relocation Idea. I have this kit here:

Dominion OffRoad Jeep JK 07-11 Evap Canister Relocation Kit

It's been sitting in a drawer for like a year (don't ask).. I just wanted to see what others had to say.

I'm a mechanic by trade but there has been some argument in the garage to weather the evap canister not being hooked up kills my MPG. Two co-workers estimated a 10% increase as I'm not burning the fumes etc. I'm not saying I believe it but something is killing my MPG.

Thanks for the responses guys

Has anyone been successful at removing it?
I'm ok with throwing a code but not at the expense of the Jeep running bad
