Default Going from Sahara 18" wheels to 16"?

All,

I was planning on replacing the stock 2014 Sahara 18" rims with a set of 16", along with 33" tires (285/75/16?).

When I talked to my "tire guy" down here, he asked if you could reduce the wheel size without having issues with the break calibers...or something like that.

He also pointed out that the stock 2014 Sahara wheels+tires are already about 32"...which I somehow missed in the specs. Should I just keep the stock tires and purchase new 18" wheels for now?

Either way, will I have any issues going to smaller wheels?

Thanks in advance!

16s are fine. The stock X wheels are 16. You can go down to 15", however, some style of 15s require some light grinding of.the caliper housing.

16s would be fine but you will find a better tire selection in 17s. Also, don't forget to check wheel offset on the wheels you look at to make sure they are 4.5 or less (smaller number) so you won't need to fork out more $$ for wheel spacers. Granted the tire size you are looking at may not warrant the offset/spacers but if you are like most of us you will at some point.

16's is a fine choice over 18's. You'll save some money and get a better look IMO. Tires will look a little beefier

16's are better than 18's but I would go with 17's unless you are getting a good deal on the 16's.

Depends. If you want 33's, 35's or 37's, 16's are fine. If you want a metric "tweener" size like 34's or something, 17's offer more options sure

Not so much on the 37's anymore. I only found 4 options when I had the credit card out a few weeks ago.

It's a shame that Cooper dropped the 37/xx/16 SST

ah that sucks. All I know is, I'm liking either 37x13.5x15 putbull rockers or Toyo open country options for me if i ever make the jump.

Thats the shitty thing about 16s. I think your very limited on 37s. I wont go bigger than 35s so im good with 16s. Rides better and looks better.
