Snorkel - forward facing or rear facing?
I have mine facing forward, Its my understanding that it was make to face forward / without letting rain water in. Had mine a for a few weeks, had some rain, I checked a few times and found no water at all.
Ive seen guys that race full throttle into water turn their snorkels to face rear.
For the rest of us, the AEV snorkel allows rain to weep out on top, as Jersey_Devil says, and the hoses between the snorkel and the air box are designed to have the engine heat burn off any additional water (within reason) that gets into piping.

Once more: Forward
Never had it mounted backwards, but had the pre-filters on my snorkel.
What I've experienced when using the ram head is that my JK doesn't need to shift down on the freeway that much.

I've had the AEV snorkel now for 3 years
Always facing forward and have never found water in the box. One time I had to turn it around. It was snow so hard I had to stop ever 10 minutes to clean the lights so I could still see. Snorkel wasn't completely blocking up but it was starting too so I just turned it around.
