Default Wrangler MT vs Wrangler Duratrac

My Jeep is more of a weekend warrior vs a heavy off roader, but It's a Jeep so it Needs a lift and tires. I have decided to go with a 2.5 inch teraflex but I need to pick the tires for it. I have looked for a while and narrowed it down to either Wrangler MT's or Wrangler Duratrac's

I live in Wisconsin and drive my Jeep year round so snow, dirt, pavement, mud, all that good stuff. Any feed back on what you guys think would be great. PS I'm going with 315/70/17

Can only speak for the duratrac tires. I have a set on my pickup truck and they are awesome. I have run them for a a little over a year and have been very happy. They have not lost much tread and I drive the hell out of them. They do pretty good in sand and mud for a all terrain type tire. Road noise is minimal. They are awesome in the snow. I live in MD but also have family in Ill. Last year people were snowed in with about a 1 1/2 ft but I was able to run around with no problem.

good luck with your choice.

Personally I run the mtr/k for the last three sets of tires I've run, but I'd recomend the duratrac for your needs. They are capable of what the Mtrs are capable of offroad for the most part.
The duratrac is more of a tamed tire compared to the mtr. You won't get the vibrations or road noise associated with the mtr.

Duratracs for your similar needs as mine here in NC. Running 315-75-16's with 19000 miles still like new, but I also do 5 tire rotation every 3000-4000 miles, so all 5 have done one complete go around. Not too noisy either. But the MTR's are a great tire!

Another Duratrac owner. 2nd set and all my friends have them. from a tacoma, f150, 4runner, fellow wheeler buddies and myself. Here in canada we get snow and cold wet rainy roads. Good sipes are important for a DD driven rig like mine. Mtrs are an awesome tire too, but purpose built. Its a wheeling tire with minimal tread life, limited traction for some DD and noisy. But for some its a price to pay for an excellent wheeling tire. My duratracs wheel very good and i havent cut or sliced one tire yet.

Very happy with my Duratracs, sounds like you are using it similarly to me, and they have handled everything I've thrown at them so far.

Proud owner of both sets of tires. Ran the 315 70 17 duratracs for 28k miles and performed awesome at everything I threw at them. There was a shit load of tread left so I sold them to a lucky forum member because I wanted 37s. So I've been running the mtrs for the last 1k miles and I have to say I love these tires as well. A little more road vibration and road noise but very tolerable and drive very nice. Ive taken my mtrs on the sand a lot and a little bit of rocks but nothing crazy and I am seeing no chunking or wear what so ever. If duratracs made a 37 it would have been a very close decision. Also my mtrs balance just fine I know there is some concern here about that. They needed very little weight at least the batch I got. I have also been in some mud and the mtrs were a lot better than the duratracs they almost felt as if they were floating. The mtrs also have a tougher sidewall for the rocks. The last thing is the mtrs look pretty bad ass especially the sidewalls

I also have the 315/70/17 Duratrac's. Great at everything, BUT mud. Was at a Jeep Jamboree a couple weekends ago and it rained and the trails were slick with mud. My Jeep was worthless. I was towed off two hills where a stock Sahara made it up. I ate several tree's as well. It was the one time I dreamed of MTR's...
