Default trans oil temp??? anyone know what is norm and high?

I just hooked up a gauge to monitor my trans temps but I guess that it is kinda pointless if I don't know how hot is to hot.

Is your gauge an OBDII reader? Or did you install a sensor somewhere?

The OBDII reads the sump temp (trans oil pan).

Normal operating temp is 180F.
I believe the TC won't lock until you're over 80F.
The Hot Oil warning reportedly triggers at 240F.
Personally, I think >200F is too hot.

The '07-'11s benefit from auxiliary coolers.
With a B&M cooler, my '08 rarely goes over 150F.

that makes perfect sense, mines an 09 with heavy tires and no cooler. mine is based off the obd2 though...

OBDII reader.

I am heading for Moab this weekend, in the past I haven't had any troubles but I also never knew how hot it was getting. It will be nice to see the opperating temps while I am crawling around.

I emailed Ron@superchips asking if there was an oil pressure reading somewhere in the 3875 but at this time that is not an option. Sure would be nice though.

Correction. It's 275. I think the 275 level was introduced with the recall flash.

Have no idea what a "3875" is, but there is no oil pressure sensor in the JK. There is an oil pressure switch. Difference? One sends the pressure reading, the other just activates at a certain pressure (to turn on the idiot light). I added a pressure sensor to my JK at the oil filter (3.8L motor; 3.6L would have to add at the oil pressure switch). I also use Torque Pro on a Nexus 7 to monitor everything on the CAN bus (though I have a manual, so no need for tranny temp) ...

Yikes! If it's that high in the sump the oil life is going to dwindle fast.

If I saw 275 in my trans, I'd be changing that fluid ASAP. Hell, if I saw 240 I'd do a partial change.

First time I saw 200 I put on a B&M cooler.

Just did a pan drop fluid and filter change at 60k. The improvement is remarkable (and I didn't even think it needed improvement before doing the change).

Putting a magnafine filter onto the cooler line and plan to do a partial change annually from here on out. I use a mighty-vac fluid extractor pump to draw the fluid out the dipstick tube.

I don't know what year is your jk but my 2012 jk normal trans temp 165 and the hottest I have seen is 184. That's towing my boat.
