Default When setting toe-in....

...Do you set it with the wheels in the air, or on the ground?

If I set the toe while the wheels are off the ground - then set the JK down and roll it forward 20 feet -- then measure the toe while on the ground; it specs out to be toed in slightly more than before.

Jack it up, and it's back to it's original spec.

Which measurement do you spec off of?

On the ground.

TOE POSITION

Before each alignment reading the vehicle should be jounced (rear first, then front). Grasp each bumper at the center and jounce the vehicle up and down three times. Always release the bumper in the down position.

NOTE: The wheel toe position adjustment is the final adjustment. This adjustment must be performed with the engine running, if the vehicle is equipped with power steering.

1. Start the engine and turn wheels both ways before straightening the steering wheel. Center and secure the steering wheel.
2. Loosen the adjustment sleeve clamp bolts (2).
3. Adjust the total toe with the tie rod. Turn the knurled adjuster until the correct total toe is reached. Center both sockets at the knuckles and tighten the clamp bolts to 61 N·m (45 ft.lbs). Make sure the toe setting does not change during clamp tightening.

4. Adjust the drag link adjuster sleeve so that the left and right toe values are equal. Verify the steering wheel is still straight. Position the clamps as shown and tighten to 35 N·m (26 ft. lbs.).
5. Verify the toe specifications and turn off the engine.

If the front wheels have equal toe-in, and the steering wheel is straight, the drag link is the proper length.

What if the wheels dont have equal toe-in but the steering wheel is straight. I only ask because one of my wheels is toed out and the other is no toe at all while my steering wheel is perfectly straight. My passenger side wheel is toed out about 1/16 of an inch.

This^

Set toe with wheels straight ahead and then steering,

I always set toe with my tires off the ground. I shot for 1/8 in and on the rack was 3/16
So now I go for 1/16 knowing it should be around 1/8.

Ok -- This is exactly what I am seeing. Except I'm doing it all in the driveway.

I was going to take another stab at it and go for 1/16" - 3/32" toe-in off the ground and re-measure after rolling.
