Default Question about body lift

Hi guys! Ryan here, 2013 Jeep JK Unlimited Sahara owner. I'm currently running a 3.5" Rough Country suspension lift and 34" Nitto Trail Graps. Come this spring, I plan on adding bigger tires, 35 or 37s. Without changing out for a new suspension, I was contemplating adding a 1-1.25" body lift. I am also running a non-flat bushwacker fender flare so I have less space to work with. Could I fit 37s on a 3.5 lift + 1-1.25 of body lift? And with adding that body lift, will I need to replace or supplement any of the undercarriage with it to compensate for the added height? A buddy told me I may need to get things lengthened if I go higher than 3.5". If that would be that case, I'll just throw 35s on and abandon the 37s idea.

Another little question for you fellow Jeepers who protect your ride...I want to buy a matching pair of front and rear differential covers/skid plates...I have the Sahara, Dana 30 in the front and 44 in the back. If I buy the ARB plates, what do I do to compensate for the extra space inside, fill it with extra oil? Because the ARB appears to be shaped different, especially the 44. I just want to clarify that, if anyone can help?! Thanks for all the advice and answers, much appreciated!

PS...anyone from the PA, NJ, NY, DE, MD areas...PM me your best local trails that arent entirely illegal to be driven on...I'm dying to get out and the trails in my neck of the woods are zero to none. Cheers!

I'm running 37's on a 3.5" RK lift w/ 1" BL and flat flares. Clears with plenty of room to spare. I imagine you'd be fine with more bumpstop on stock flares, but I'd trim them if I were you. You wouldn't need anything lengthened with a 1" BL on a JK, except for maybe trimming your shifter boot if you have a manual.

I'm also running ARB diff covers front and rear, and the internal dimensions are pretty much the same as stock. Regardless of what diff covers you get, just fill it to the "stock" level. ARBs have a dipstick, or you can use a ziptie as a makeshift dipstick if you went w/ another manufacturer.

Seeing that you're in PA, you could make it out to Rausch creek for some good wheeling. I try to get out there once a month or so.

So if I run 37s on a 3.5" suspension + 1" body lift with non-flat flares, I wouldn't need to change my gears or anything? That's a ton of extra weight for a stock 2013 sahara 3.6L engine. That'd be great news! I just assumed when going from 35 to 37 you need some more power or gear changes

Personally, I would look at doing a flat fender instead of a BL. Take a look at Planmans write up about how to clear 37s on a 2.5" lift. I don't have a 3.6 so I can't tell you anything about power but if you have 35s now and it doesn't bother I would try for the 37s. I've heard 4.10 gears and the 3.6 and 35s isn't too bad so I wouldn't imagine 37s would be unbearable. Use the search and see what other people have to say about the gear/tire size. Tons of people have 37s on this site with tons of opinions.

I'd definitely get gears.

I run 35s on a light 2-door (3.6 engine) with 3.73 gears (assuming you have 3.21?) and it is borderline unbearable. I'm moving to 37s and wouldn't do anything less than 4.56. 4.10 would be tolerable, but that only makes sense if you have a stock Rubi with that gearing. Depending on where you drive, you'll want to look at 4.56 or 4.88 with 37s.

That is way more lift than you need to run 37s. Save time and money on a body lift and get a good set of high clearance flat fenders.

Agreed with needing to go deeper on gears. I've got 35's with my 3.73 gear and while not bad would never do 37's with them. I will go to 4.56 in future. If you mean bushwacker pocket flare when you say none flat bushwackers you will need body lift do to pocket flares coming down so far.
