Default Suggestions needed to install winch on stock bumper.

Curious if any of you installed a winch on a stock bumper. Did you get a winch plate or modify the bumper? Or am I better off saving up for a new bumper? Mine is stock with the exception of cutting the ends and capping them.

Was trying to go with a cheap solution that works.

my buddy used a winch plate and it worked fine, but id rather save for a front bumper. Depends on how much you plan to modify your rig and how hard you offroad.

How are you looking to mount it? on top of the stock bumper or hidden behind with just the fairlead sticking out. I recently did mine hidden behind the stock bumper, dont pln on doing a aftermarket bumper anytime soon, need a good lift before i do any of that. just adding the winch dropped my stock suspension 1/2"-3/4" in the front.

Did you do it hidden behind the stock bumper using the thread on here or you just winged it? I was going to to a top mount and just get a plate but the plates are almost as expensive as bumpers on some sites.

Just looking to do a lift and not modify it too much. I commute 2 hours a day in mine. What plate did he use? That's my debate since some plates cost almost as much as bumpers

Fairly simple mod, I knocked it out in my apartment parking lot in about a day. I used a combination of threads to do mine….see if I can find 'em for ya…..

I used a winch plate from Harbor Freight…wasn't expensive at all. Just took a little ingenuity to bring it all together...

I used ideas from the thread on here as well as winged it. I'm pretty handy, we build our own dirt track racecars, so I had some materials laying around that I was able to use. I actually mounted mine right side up hidden behind the bumper.

you can get a rock hard 4x4 winch plate from 4wd.com for about $140 and easy to mount and solid.
