Default grinding/ metal on metal noise

so i went wheeling this past weekend and i hi-centered on a rock then got off. afterward i heard a grinding or metal on metal noise. it only occurs occasionally when i accelerate and then at random times when I'm driving. i checked underneath and there are small dents and such underneath but nothing of real significance. the sound goes away when i take my foot off the petal (when it makes the noise) so this is where i think its a engine/tranny/transfer issue. otherwise when i drive i do not have any performance issues so far. so if anyone has any other ideas of what this could be would be greatly appreciated.

Mine does it between 55-65km/hr when the vehicle shifts into 4th gear. Only does it at the lower rpm range like 1100-1350rpm then goes away. Been driving it for 6months now, not sure what to do yet.

That could be pinging. Try high octane and see if it goes away. I have to run 91/93 in mine.

But if it sounds like quarters in your exhaust it's probably a heat shield.

yeah, check your heat shield. in my case there is a small 8"-10" heat shield more or less situated between the front passenger and driver seat. the tack weld that holds it to the exhaust tube broke but that made more of a rattle sound and not a grinding as you explained

It does sound like a heat shield. Sometimes the high resonance vibrations make it sound like scraping metal. Do you have skid plates that could have been pushed up into the crossover?
