Default Shimming after a gear install

Im planning to install some 4.88's in my 2010 2dr 6spd as well as detroit truetracs front and rear. That being said, i dont have many miles on the axles right now, so id like to avoid the install kits if possible since from what ive been told its not necessary. However in the event that i need shims so i just need ones for the D30 and D44, or are they specific to the truetrac?

Run a pattern and check backlash at three points on the ring gear. May need to shim since your swapping entire carrier tolerances come into play.

Do your research before you start pulling it apart.

Ive still got a couple months yet, so thats what im trying to do now. Are shim kits generic to the axle? EX: D30 and D44 kits? or is it specific to the truetrac or what?

At a minimum you will need shim kits and crush sleeves. Changing carriers and gears require different shim thicknesses to get the gears meshing properly.

Crush sleeves are for one-time use. Once they are compressed for proper pinion bearing preload (as determined by rotational torque in INCH POUNDS) they cannot be un-compressed and reused.

It's a good idea to change pinion seals while you are at it.
