Splicing info for winch line
Go to Sampson ropes website and download some of their free PDFs on line splicing, they have all types.
I made splicing fids from hollow knitting needles I found at the thrift store. Just cut them down to 6" and de-burred the cut edge.
Gorilla tape hold the rope to fid end really well.
Found a small ceramic paring knife at harbor freight for $6 that cuts through the Amsteel rope strands like butter. For proper tapered splice you'll need to do a lot of cutting.
I bought a snapped synthetic winch line to practice with.
Good luck, it's kind of fun to do once you get the hang of it. Our dog has more spare leashes now than she'll even need.
