Is it a bad idea to run my 255/70r18 stock tires on a 18x9 rim? Getting mixed reviews I know the stock tire is only suppose to fit up to 8.5 inch rim by manufacturers specs but I've had lots of people tell me it's fine.

Just watch your PSI while airing down. As long as your not hard on the pedal while wheeling you should be ok.

 

I was going to do the same thing. In fact I had paid for Rugged Ridge 9 inch. After thinking about it I decided it wasn't worth the chance. I ended up going with an 8 inch wheel. I'm very happy with how the stock tires look and ride on the 8 inch. In fact when it's time to get new tires I may stay with the stock size. After all it's a daily driver that makes it off road once a year. The new wheel has 4.5 backspace so the tires stick out just past the fender ( instead of just inside) and look bigger.

 

Did it, asked a lot of mechanics around and they said it should be fine, and as for airing down I don't plan on it as off-roading is at minimum right now.

 

what did you get for an 8 inch wheel? Got pics?

 

Went with Ultra Phantom. They are 17x8 with 4.5 backspacing.
