Default Need Winch opinions

So, I am on the fence with purchasing my first winch for my JKU. I have read a lot of posts and am trying to make up my mind between cable / synthetic vs quality manufacturer. The winch will more than likely get very light weekend use. I know that WARN products are superior and pricey. My choices are as follows

Cable Category: WARN VR8000 cable (479.00)

Synthetic Rope: Smittybilt XRC Gen2 9500 (449.00) or Engo e10000S (425.00)

Everyone says go with Synthetic Rope over Cable, as well as, everyone would prefer a Warn. For a first winch what's the right direction?

Thanks

I think the VR series warn is no different than the others you listed. I've seen these beside the Engo and see little if no performance difference. This is warns attempt at getting into the lower priced market.

I say go with the Warn models that are a little more pricey..it's worth saving a while and waiting IMO. You'll buy once and never regret your purchase. Gooduck.

I agree. I have a Warn VR10000S and it is a chinese made winch just like all the other low end winches. I feel a little mislead as Warn orignially said the VR series was assembled in Oregon using some imported parts but they are infact entirely made in China as is stamped on the box it came in and the winch itself. If I had wanted solely chinese I would have saved money and got an Engo.

Warn makes a great Winch and you can't go wrong there. If you're on a bit of a budget, I like Engo as well. As for cable vs synth, synth is lighter, safer and won't kink. However it is more susceptible to UV damage, chaffing and you need to keep it clean. Most manufacturers recommend you change the cable every so often.

Let me know what other questions you have or if you'd like a quote on anything.

Warn is a name and a good one but I have seen nothing but good reviews on this kit. Out of stock right now. Waterproof, synthetic rope, cover, wireless remote and cable remote. This this is bad ass. YouTube it. Save yourself 500 bucks

Thanks for all the replies. I do Agee with everyone on Warn being the "ultimate" solution. I guess my main question was in the scenario. Is a Warn "low-end" cable winch a better option than going with a low-end Synthetic winch?

I just installed the LoD shorty bumper with a massive hole that needs to be filled I would love to wait and save more and in the future a high end Warn will be my goal. BUT, with so many other items I still need (rear bumper/carrier, rockers, armor, lighting w/ dBox, sway discos, etc...) I wanted to keep the 1st winch under $500. So, is the consensus to still get the Warn Cable winch over an lower Synthetic Rope winch?

I was actually looking at the Recon originally, but they are all out of stock every where. I read that they are simple a rebranded version of the Gorilla Silverback anyway which kind of turned me off to it.

Take a look at the quadratech winches. I got a great winch with synthetic line under 500. Check them out.
