Default Painting rock rails, a little help please

bout to paint my rock rails for a 3rd time. First time i didnt use a primer, so it chipped off easy.

Im stripping them down to bare metal again and have a question on what to use.

Should i use Rustoleum BARE METAL PRIMER or Rustoleum SELF ETCHING PRIMER?

I didnt know if i should use the one called bare metal primer since that what im painting, or to use the self etch since it is what i read to use on hear. Also is a primer sealer needed before the top coat?

And what is everyone using for a top coat? Just Rustoleum Matte black paint?

When I did mine I cleaned them really good with a TSP solution then used self etching primer (2) coats then (3) coats of rustoleum satin black. They looked awesome .

alright guys.

Got a couple of coat of self etching primer on them after i cleaned them up real good

How long should i wait to put the satin black on these? Its about 70 deg today. Should i let them sit over night to cure before putting on the satin black?

Aslo, did you guys sand the primer before the top coat?

It should say on the can how long until you can re coat. Usually as long as it's dry your good to go. As far as sanding, it wouldn't hurt to scuff them down quick but if they look good you shouldn't need it

ok. so i put on 3 coats.

Its been drying now for about 2 hours.

And if i use my nail and scratch at it hard, it will go down tobare metal.....

What gives?!?!?!?

I prep'd the shit out of these. Washed them, scuffed up with a wire brush, washed again, rinsed them with actone, tact clothed thembefore painting....

Does this stugg maybe need to cure over night? It was about 70 deg today and sunny. was thinking it was good enough weather wise.
