Looking for opinions on axle swap or not
I have a 2008 jku sport with 51000 miles. I do light wheeling, more trails and not a lot of rocks. I've been looking at rubicon axle swap and some of the other common ones. I don't care about the e disco but lockers would be nice. My question is should I just throw a locker in my rear axle and regear while leaving the dana30 in place or should I step up to the rubicon axles.
You can't go wrong with a front Dana44 but it sounds to me like it wouldn't hurt adding a locker to your rear and going from there. I am not really hard core so I have been running my d30 with a zip locker and 35's. I haven't had any problems. Some run much harder trails and that wouldn't be the best option.
You do light trails? I think you answered your own question with that comment. Don't waste any money on an axle swap when it's not necessary. The money spent for a new axle for the type of wheeling your into is not prudent. Spend it on some other items that are geared to what you do. You can do a lot with the Dana 30 and it sounds like it's sufficient for your needs. A locker in the rear would be fine though.
Depends on your budget, and whether you think you are likely to be tackling harder terrain in the future.
Do you need full lockers? (Sounds like a pair of truetracs might suit you just fine?)
What ratio are you going to? If all you want is 4.10, and you can find a pair of rubicon axles for a decent price, go for it! You might even be able to find rubi axles that were already upgraded. (Maybe - some people find them easily, others search forever.)
If you are planning to buy rubicon axles and then build them, add up all of the costs to see where you'll end up. Aftermarket could be very comparable.
