Question Bedtred install idea

I'm going to start my Bedtred install tomorrow and had a bright idea...let me know if it's just plain stupid or not!

My major concern with the Bedtred was water or mud getting trapped underneath it and having nowhere to go...So why not just cut holes in the Bedtred above the drain plug locations so I can monitor underneath the material and open the plugs when needed. I think this would work great other than maybe just giving the water more ways to get undeath the material and ruin my day.

Great idea or just asking for more trouble?

i have bedtred and i just leave my plugs out all the time. it lives outside year round, with no top or doors (admittedly i'm in california) and i've had an inch or two of water in the tub several times - seems to dry out after a couple days no problem.

if you aren't going to be driving thru deep water all the time, then just leave the plugs out.

If mud gets up underneath there aren't you going to just take it out and clean it up? I guess if its just water that you would be dealing with then i wouldnt see why not.

That was my first thought but then I was afraid of water/mud coming up through the open plugs and getting trapped. I suppose that would happen either way if I cut holes in the Bedtred or not. Up here in ND we don't really have a lot of rocks to crawl on so almost every wheeling trip ends up with mud bogging or water fording. Usually not deep enough to come in through the plugs, but sometimes it does.

How often do you pull yours out?

My other thought was that by cutting drain holes it would make it easier for a quick spray out as well as a quick way for me to access the drain plugs if I keep them in...
