Lucas red and tacky. The grease is really there to prevent rust. Red and tacky seems to be the best in terms of resisting moisture and staying where it is supposed to be.

Bearing grease will work fine or you can put a marine grade grease in it. That stuff works the best in my opinion.

Do you think I'll need a grease gun to do so ?
And will it also make it swing easier ?

Thanks

Yes you will need a grease gun if it has the little fitting to pump grease into and yes it will make it swing open a lot smoother.
