Default Nitto Mud Grappler Tires

Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my tired from the metric BFG AT 315/70R17 tires to Nitto Mud Grapplers 37x13.50R17s.

I have a 2012 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited with a 4" Currie lift. I already know that I have to swap out the front driveshaft as well as get the gussets on the C's.

Anyone running these tires? If so, what's your thoughts on them?

My jeep is not my daily driver, used for camping trips and rock crawling.

Thanks for your time.

Jeff

I seriously considered buying these but decided to go with cooper stt. General consensus is that they sound like a single engine plane at take off, one of the heaviest tires out there, and you can get pretty good life out of them. Just consider weight and additional strain because they're a lot heavier than the BFG. My brothers going to buy a set for his JK and seemed like the only complaint from people was the noise. If you can live with it I say go for it but look around there might be cheaper out there that suit your needs better. In the end I don't think you can go wrong with them, good luck.

My opinions on them as I ran them in 35s and 37s on my old vehicle.

Noise- It does sound bad a** but a lot of people hate it for some reason. Me personally i care less if its noisy as loud as they perform how i need them too.

Performance- Off road they are amazing. They dig and clean very well in the mud. Never crawled with them but from what i hear they are awesome on rocks as well. On road they were normal. Just keep in mind the braking distance when needing to stop harder. Also with my Jeep i feel the 35s actually slow me down to where i usually don't even step on the brake half the times.

Mileage- I got a good 35k out of my 35s before i sold them to someone who wanted them as spares. i don't know how many more were put on before tossed. My 37s i cant give an exact amount as i had them on the truck when i first got them and then ran 35s and put the 37s back on later. Some people report very crappy mileage life out of them and some get around 40k.

Maintenance- I rotated and re balanced every 3k along with my oil change. Did it need to be re balanced? Idk but when i spend that much money on tires ill do the proper maintenance i feel is necessary to get the mileage out of them i need.

Overall- Would recommend these tires to someone who is actually looking to use this tire for what its meant for. If you are looking for high mileage out of them and want them for looks just go another tire route.

Goodluck

^^^well said sir, the only complaint I have on them is I should have got 37's...my bad tho. Side by side with the BFG MT I had is a no brainer. Sure they r heavier but they out perform wherever u go. Mud? Pssssh. Sand? Psssh. Ice, snow, and even rocks. I ripped off a couple shoulder lugs on BFG'S..havent had any problems with the NITTO'S

I'm running the 37/13.50 with 4". I have chopped fender flares and everything fits great. If I were to do it again I would go with another tire. They are too loud for my taste and HEAVY. The ride very rough also. I only have about 4000 miles on mine so I can't give you a wear opinion other than with having 4000 miles they still have a ton of tread left. I don't have a tread depth gauge, sorry. I've had good luck with them offroad but I have to say they haven't performed any better than my last set of tires on some rock ledges. Those were 35" Dick Cepek Mud Countries. Loved those tires.

I bought a set of 35 inch mud grapplers brand new and they were amazing. Very loud but amazing I liked them so much that when a friend was selling his 37's I bought those from him. They are great in mud, on trails and they kill it on the rocks. I can't tell you about mileage because I only drive my jeep about 2000 miles a year. Good luck

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I think I'll go ahead and pull the trigger on them. As I said, it's not my DD so I'm not worried about the noise. Actually, (and you can call me crazy) I like the noise, let's people know I'm coming.

Those of you running the 37's did you do anything else aside from the driveshaft replacement and the gussets on the C's?

Eventually I'll swap out the axle shafts and upgrade the brakes. But that a few more months down the road.

Thanks again

Jeff

I dont understand how people put lift, tires, wheels on vehicle and expect things to be quiet and ride like a cadillac.

I didn't expect it to be quiet and ride like a caddie, but in my opinion the Mud Grapplers are way loud, Mud Bogger loud that is. There are many other "large" tires that are much quieter (some people don't like extremely loud tires). At first I loved the sound, I hate it now; that's just me-I'm getting old I know. I said they ride hard because the do. They have very stiff sidewalls (which is good for rocks of course). I do agree though, don't expect it to ride like a caddie.
