I don't ever get this. Why bother? Spend a bunch of money for tires hardly any larger than stock and have to deal with making them fit. If you need new tires, check Craigslist. People sell them all day long for next to nothing. Or, pick up a set of rubicon take offs. They perform as well as just about any 33" out there and you'll save a ton of money.
Maybe... The 285/70-17 on mine are ~32.8 diameter and about 1" wider than Rubi KM's.
With stock wheels and fenders, the tires fit up inside the fenders at full articulation against the bump stops. It's close, but there's still enough clearance for bump-stop compression on mine.
However, with stock wheels they rub at full steering angle, but a thin washer added to each steering stop fixed that.
If on the other hand spacers (or wheels with less offset) are added instead of washers on the steering stops, the tires will probably hit the fenders during articulation (because they are sticking out ~1.5" further). Bump-stops (that reduce suspension travel), cut fenders flares, or flat fenders could be a solution.
As far as a lift goes, if the bump-stops remain stock -- A lift gives less bump-stop compression (how much less would depend on the lift). If you want a small lift, Daystar makes a simple 3/4" spacer kit. Is a lift necessary, will bump-stop compression result in tire-fender contact? There's manufacturing differences between Jeeps, between tires of the same size, eventually there's a slip off a rock, etc. No firm answer, it's your call. Personally, I like a just a little extra belly clearance (and suspension up travel).
