Default comparison of remote reservoir shock types verses normal shock types

Hey guys I'm looking in upgrading shocks after I buy a lift kit. What the differences and pros and cons of remote reservoir shocks compared to a normal shock?
How are they crawling and stuff and how are they on the road

This is Mark's opinion: Remote reservoir shocks are eye candy. They serve a very useful function in something like a Baja racer. Or in the KoH. But for your average rock crawler or Overland/expedition traveler? No performance advantage over a good shock. Check out the Rancho 9000XL. Spend the money you save on something that will give a real improvement in performance.

Agreed. I don't think there is any ride advantage on road either. I think it's more of a cooling factor of the shock body. I ran king reservoir in the front and switched back to my regular fox cause I liked them better.

I think a huge factor for a lot of people in getting remote reservoir is that "wow" factor, because let's be honest they look kick @$$. I gotta go with Bunny though, I LOVE my Fox shocks. Big improvement on ride quality.

I heard they are for if your baja racing across a desert and need the extra cooling. Also heard that some baja racers don't even use remote reservoir shocks. Personally, I wouldn't get them. It sounds like a waste of money just for the looks of the shocks. But then again I don't know your situation with your shocks and what you do and what the prices are that your looking at. If it was a small price difference, like $100, then I would probably do it

I have fox w/ res. Great eye candy, not much useful over normal for most circumstances.

Won't notice which you have, if tuned right, for crawl and on road.

x2... or 5 or whatever we're up to now.

If you want to pay for the eye candy aspect there's certainly nothing wrong with that. Lots of people pay for things that are just for looks.
