Default Codes P0369, B157B, C121C, P2638 only when towing (under load)

2013 JKUR, 37's, 4.5" long arm

Consistently getting engine codes when towing our tent trailer. Only happens when driving above 55 mph (100+ km/h) while towing. Can drive for weeks without towing & check engine light never comes on. Within 15-20 km's of driving at highway speeds while towing, the CEL & TC lights come on & goes into limp mode. Tried disconnecting the trailer wiring while towing to see if it was specific to the trailer wiring, but engine codes still occur.

The P0369 is related to the Camshaft Position Sensor "B", Circuit Intermittant Bank 1, C121C is the Torque Request Signal Denied & P2638 is related to Torque Management so i'm inclined to think it's either a connector issue or break in a wire somewhere in those circuits. Is it possible that mechanical issues (worn tires, bent drag link, etc...) could be contributing to this issue & tricking the PCM that sensors are out?

The issue never occurs on bumpy or dirt roads, only on pavement at highway speeds & only while towing a trailer (while under load). My theory is that if it was a bad connector or a break in the circuit wiring then it should be worst over bumpy roads, but it's not, it's the opposite. That's why i'm wondering if it's not worn tires or bent drag link, both of which I know I have.

I'm stumped.

Well, I've ruled out worn tires.

Swapped tires & wheels yesterday with a friend's JK & test drove again. At the exact same amount of mileage & speed on the highway while towing our trailer with brand new tires (on the Jeep), the codes appear & goes into limp mode. Obviously has to do with increased load & speed (actually only towing 2500 lbs with a 4 door JK, so well under it's capacity). When I take it slower (30-45 mph or 50-80 km/h) while towing the trailer, the codes do not come on. And when I'm NOT towing a trailer, the codes never appear.

Again, I'm stumped.

RubiCamp, I see that this was a long time ago. What ever happened with it? Having exact same issue. Thanks!

i just gave it an oil change, replaced both sensors with OEM sensors took it out wheeling and everything was fine. Drive it on the hey at 70 and the camshaft position sensor came on again. I’ve Been told everything from oil change to battery connectors but both are dumb solutions. Yes low oil could cause it but I don’t have low oils and my battery is working properly. Any word on a fix?

I'm having this along with P06DD (oil pump)

All electrics have been checked and it is currently having camshaft position sensors, oil pump, timing chains replaced.

If this doesn't fix it then it really only leaves the PCM...

Have you figured this out yet? I just purchased a 2013 Wrangler and went to go uphill and it threw codes C121C and P0369. The dealership says put in a new cam sensor, but I have seen that this doesn't always fix the issue. Thanks!

Do you know why those codes are showing up?

believe it or not, I changed the sensors to factory changed the pigtails going ty o them and it still coded on my in 40 miles. I remembered a thread where sd someone said he put lucus engine treatment and it hasn't done it again..
...well same here... I pulled a quart out ( oil only had 2k on it) I just got back from a 500mile camping trip and it never coded. take what you want from that...I'm thinking it just needed heavy oil due to the miles. I have 130k on it and never skipped an oil change so it's not abuse...justvnormal wear.

This has been baffling me for a while now also. Same scenario, only when towing and I was getting the traction light coming on. At first I thought it was related to the trans and the oil was too hot. I added an additional cooler and pusher fan. That helped with the trans temp but I still got the codes and limp mode. So when the code would pop up, I would pull over, read it to make sure no new codes, clear it and move on till next time. My last trip it was same thing, and on the way home after clearing the same codes again, it hit me, why traction light in the mix of things. So I turned of traction control and it didn't do it the rest of the trip. I am going to do the Lucas oil thing before next trip just incase. I wish we could get a for sure fix.
