Default Need opinions please on what you would do

Heres my dilemma im running into with my decision on where to go for getting a set of gears installed. I have 2 options and wanting to see what exactly you guys would do.

Place 1: is a local place that is known for Jeep stuff as well. Got a quote of around $1,800 with Yukon F/R 4.88 + Carrier + install.

Place 2: Is located in cali and doing a $999.99 special. Got a quote of about $500 cheaper then above quote with gears unknown in 4.88 F/R + Carrier + install.

I can make the drive to place 2 as its only 250 miles or so but thinking about how much cheaper the quote is ill still be saving money in the long run.

Are they going to do it same day? Don't forget to add in meals and hotel if not. What are you going to do and how are you going to get around while they are working on it?

Offroad Evolution? They are high volume, should be a fairly safe bet for a regear. BUT, what do you do if you have a problem? Drive it back to them? Pay for a tow truck? Expect them to drive to you?

I was in that situation for my first regear. For me, driving to the cheap shop cost a lot more than just paying at the more expensive local shop.

That really is not a bad price to do all that, stay local and save your money instead of on the road.

Where is the place in Cali and also remember that you have the break in on gears , so the long drive won't be a good one on the way home

The first place might be the better choice but I think they are to high , 12 to 1300 will be better

Stay local IMO, running 250 highway miles to get home right after a re gear may be a bad idea.
If a axle seal starts leaking or any locker problems ie plunger issues etc. you want the shop to be close to take care of it.

2 Day turn around is what i was told. Me and the wife have been wanting to take a vacation anyways so hotels and rental car were already in the works if the drive was going to happen. Still be cheaper in the long run if there were no issues on the drive back after install.

Correct. I asked about the drive home for the 250 miles and they said it would be ok but would have to take it really slow.

I will but the problem is the gears (yukon) + carrier for the local place is going to be at least around $700 in just parts. I don't understand $1100 in install prices for the local place.

Fullerton. I will try to talk them down. As stated already idk how far i can talk them down without knowing the gears the out of town shop uses.

I can see where you are coming from but the two places are well known Jeep shops. One is in Cali and one sells driveshafts.

whos got the better warrenty on their work? and only 300 bucks difference for a 500 mile round trip isnt much savings, esp when re-gears can have issues pop up that you might well need the shop that installs it to adjust after the fact....
