Default Looking to Sell Jeep - Need Price Opinion

Hi All,

I'm looking to sell my Jeep in September when I move from NoVa to San Diego. I love the Jeep, but after 4 years, it is time to part with it. Looking to buy an Unlimited in SD, this way I save on shipping a car cross country and I need the extra room.

Kelly blue book value for selling as a private party is $20,800. Is this fair or should I be pricing higher for the mods?

This might not be the correct forum, but it seemed the most logical to me when looking at the rest, if it is the wrong forum, please let me know (in a nice way).

2008 Jeep Wrangler 2 Door Sahara
68,000 Miles
Hard Top and Soft Top
6 Speed Manual
Power Windows
Power Doors
Navigation
Jeep is in great condition, I have done every service according to manual, replaced the known water pump issue when it began leaking, and used synthetic oil since 35,000 miles (when I purchased). Never taken off-roading (I know, I know), but has been on the beach twice and immediately sprayed down after leaving.

Aftermarket:
15" MB Wheels TKO (all 5)
33 x 12.5 x 15 Goodyear wrangler duratracs (all 5 with ~18,000 miles on tires)
AEV Procal to fix speedometer and tire pressure sensors.
Rubicon Shocks with 18/59 Springs added at 50,000 miles (18,000 miles on shocks), shocks were brand new off JKR and springs brand new off JKUR.
Teraflex Leveling Kit
Rugged Ridge Aluminum Hood Latches
Quadratech floor mats
Custom cut stubby bumper with VPD End Caps

Honestly, mods are great but you'll never get your money back. You can return to stock and sell your jeep and sell mods separate. Or try and get high book value out of it and call it a day. I would choose option 2 if it's me. Good luck.

Thanks! I was thinking the same. I've seen similar jeeps to mine being listed for $22,000 which would be great to get.

Clean Jeep but with the mods listed I would think it would actually hurt the resale value, mainly the cut front bumper. I would check your local craigslist for what they are selling for.

2008 Sahara with 70k on it might have a tough time even getting $21k for it as is... As others have said the mods aren't going to get you anymore, unless someone wants them and is willing to pay more but I doubt you will find that. Nice jeep however. Good luck with the sale and the move.

The small amount of mods done don't really add up to all that much. It might make your jeep easier to sell to someone going for the look but money wise it's not that much. If blue book says that's the value I'd go with that or $21k as a starting point.

If you have forever to find out then go ahead. Otherwise take the first real offer that meets your hopes/desires. Sounds like it will cost you if you try to get what you think it's worth. KBB is pretty good estimate and has the price vehicles are selling for in your area if you look close to it. But it doesn't say how long it takes to sell at the best price.

I think $21-22k would be a good starting point. If you have the stock good latches then you can just swap those back and use the rigged ridge on your next jeep. As Dirtman said the front bumper might hurt some and I would check on Craigslist to see if maybe you can find one free or for a really low price. Wheels and tires could help or hurt and the leveling kit also. I would just keep that stuff on.

I'm a salesman, I think you can get close to what you want. Unless your pressed for money then take what you need. First clean it well, make it smell good, and if someone comes to look at it be honest and confident. You will do fine! Good luck.
