Tell me why not!!!!!
I am planning on buying Kumho Road Venture AT KL78 - 33X12.50R17's for my JK.
I don't know anything about these tires but they are one of just a couple manufacturers that make a 33/12.5/17 Specs show this tire at 31.4" tall, want to stay low with the floatation of the 12.5 tire and this height will help me maintain my present fuel mileage I am getting with the 265/70/17 Terra grapplers I am runnin now.
(which I love but they don't make a 33/12.5/17 I am runnin now.
I DO NOT have clearance problems and can handle this tire with no prob.
My concern is with the Quality, tread wear ability, quietness, overall quality of this particular Khumo tire.
Any and all honest unbiased personal or acquaintance experienced opinions welcome. TELL ME WHY NOT!!!!!

Because Kumho suck! Just kidding. Seriously, I never hear this brand brought up much. That makes me a little skeptical. I can find a number of 33x12.50R17 choices out there so not sure why you say there are only a couple who make them. Search 4WP and Discount Tire Direct as a couple places that have a number of options. Also, a 285/70R17 is very close to a 33x12.50R17 and will open up even more choices. I've actually run both and liked the 285 a little better. Not as a short and squatty.
While Khumo tires aren't actually a "bad" tire, my onl experience with them was horrible. It wasn't an off road tire, nor was it even a Jeep. It was on a Chrysler 300c. I bought a set replace my Michelins. I seriously pulled to the side of the road less than 1/8th of a mile after getting them mounted. I entered a highway on ramp and thought a wheel was loose or all of the tires were severely low on air pressure. They were not. It was scary. The car would literally rock side to side about 3 inches because the sidewalls were sooo sloppy and soft. Really scary. I went right back and bought a set of the exact same size Michelin Pilots. These tires, at that time, were Khumos ultra high performance tire. They sucked. Badly. They were the recommended tire for the car. Bought them from Tire Rack. And since they were mounted, non returnable. I had them cut up and flipped inside out to make tomato plant "boxes". Haha.
Since then, no more Khumos. I'm sure they are good tires. Just not for me. I know my friends new Toyota Tundra has them as OEM on some factory 20"'wheels. His truck rides great.

A buddy of mine owns a tire shop and I asked him about Kuhmo tires for my wifes CRV and he said great tire. I then asked about Kuhmo M/T tire for my JK and he screamed "DON'T DO IT". Confused as to why and he said that their side walls are very weak and won't hold up well to the type of wheeling I do (rock crawling). Said I'd tear the living daylights out of them when aired down.
Other than that reason, he liked Kuhmo tires. If you don't do any type of wheeling where you need to air down a lot to crawl rocks, they are probably a good tire for you. I only looked at them originally because they were cheap.
And my wife has about 30K on her Road venture Highway tires and they are holding up great. But she doesn't wheel the CRV

The M/Ts are yea. I run them and they are awesome I think. However the A/Ts is what the OP is looking at.

As I said I would really like to maintain as close as possible my mileage I have now. 285's are taller and would erode my mileage., I travel to hunt a lot. I also like the wider tread look and flotation performance. I hear what everyone has said and am glad they are giving me info I did not have. I agree there are more 33/12.5 tires out there (a few) but most are MT's and I only want or need a AT.
The few other choices have some bad write-ups such as the General Grabber AT etc. There just aren't many choices for short and wide for the 17" Procomp 7069 rims I have. back in the day wide was in now Pizza tires are in........................tough choice.
If you know some others I have missed please let me know what they are and I will check em' out!

I hated my Kumho's. They lasted maybe 25k before they became slicks... I will never go back, EVER! I have close to 20k on my KM2's and they still have plenty of life left. My dad also runs KM2's and he has damn near 50k on his...
So reading the fine print, the actual question is: "Kumho, yes or no? Give opinions."
Which of course needed a second, completely unrelated thread that had nothing to do with the Modified Tech section to promote it.
How about:

For other possible options:
Falken Wildpeak/Rocky Mountain are getting good reviews
33/12.50/17 - spec 32.4 x 12.6
