Default Bad Steering Stabilizer?

All of a sudden my steering seems to have more slack and shakes when I hit a pothole. I've had my lift and 35's for 5 months or so and don't remember noticing anything this significant. The swaybar appears ok. I'm guessing it's a worn steering stabilizer. Any other thoughts? Perhaps my swaybar disconnect is open?

I had that same thing and it finally turned into what is called DEATH WOBBLE.

Search that phrase here and you will find out....

Good Luck and gobless.

Compare an aftermarket stabilzer, such as my Fox Racing and compare to the OEM stabilzer...huge difference.

Default Steering stabiliser? Maybe not.....

Check your track bar. Same thing happened to me, but it was a loose track bar..... before you go spend the cash!!!!

Good luck man!

Paul

I also developed the shimmy shakes.... not to be confused with death wobble (very misquoted)

it doesn't sound like a bad steering stabilizer to me. if the stabilizer is bad, your steering will be very stiff....also, when you turn the steering wheel while driving, the jeep won't return to center, and almost pull you in that direction if your stabilizer is bad.

check your trackbar for proper torque specs.

if you replace the steering stabilizer with an aftermarket one right now, it may mask the real problem.

I got the same thing when mine wore out. Dealership replaced it under warranty and then ordered me a superlift stabilizer to prevent this from ever happening again. I love my dearlership

Default Just torqued mine

I just checke my torque and both track bars are good. I put a wrench on every other suspension part just to make sure nothing else was loose while I was out there. I only get a very slight shimmy if I let go of the wheel and its not all the time. If I let go of the wheel and hit the brakes it tracks straight as an arrow. So I am assuming its a tire balance issue or I am a little too anal.......

Look under the front of the jeep while someone turns the wheel back and forth while its running. Take a look at your track bar while they're turning it. If its moving alot in the mounts, thats a problem. Also while youre there, look at where the shaft of the steering stabilizer goes into the canister of the stabilizer. If you see any oily residue coming out of there and on the underside of it, its shot. I had a combination of the 2 plus a cracked track bar and it created one heck of a wobble. Sounds like its your stabilizer. There is another way to fix this. Get some adjustable upper front control arms to get everything back in geometry. Bad caster will give you a wobble and adding a lift will throw that outa wack.

So there should be no play at all or is a veryslight amount ok. I could not see it move but if i put my hand on it I could feel a little give.
