Default soon to be new jeep owner

I was looking for some help with tire and wheel questions. I am in Afghanistan right now but when i get home I will be purchasing a 4-door wrangler unlimited. I want to run 32x11.50's; but i don't know if they will fit without a lift. Is a 305/70/r16 the same size? And if so, is a 16x10 wheel too wide? Thanks in advance for any help with these questions......HOOAH!

Hi and welcome to project- JK. A 305/70 is the same as a 33x12.50 tire. A 285/75 is the same as a 33x11.50 tire. You would probably need a 2.5 bb to run these tires, and still have full flex. 32x11.50 tires probably wouldn't need a lift to run. I'm not sure, but you may need wheel spacers to clear the wider tire though. As far as rims go you could run up to a 12.50 wide tire on an 8" rim, but wider tires would require a 10" or wider rim. I have seen a JK on here with 10" wide rims on it. Hope this helps.

Default 285/75/16

Thanks for all you are doing over there in Afghanistan. Have a safe return to the US and enjoy a new JK when you get back. Have fun with it!

I have the 285/75/16 on 16x8 wheels with the 4.5 inch backspace. No rubbing issues at all.

No lift, but I don't plan on any rock crawling in the near future. (not until the kids are older and I can take them along) I probally will never unhook the front sway bar. Just trail rides and minor offroad use.

If I plan on using it for some for serious offroad use in a few years I will need a lift for sure. at least a 2.5" BB.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure that I will be trying to pick your brains for answers and ideas. This will be my first Jeep and I can't wait to get home and get to it!

Default first Jeep

This is also my first Jeep. I always wanted one but was never practical enough for everday use. ( with the kids ). When the 4 door came out I was all over it.

Sold the extended cab truck and bought the Jk and a 5x10 trailer. Only thing is, Now my wife wants to drive the Jeep. She never wanted to drive the truck!

By far, the most fun I have ever had owning and driving any vehicle.

The Sticky in the modified section contains a lot of info when it comes to tire sizes/lits/offset requirements. Also i have found this Metric Tire Conversion tool to be handy.

Default Thanks IndianaJK

Wow! I also got rid of my 2005 F150 FX4 WITH 33X12.50 so i could buy my wife a new car before I deployed. I also have been wanting to get a Jeep for a while, but like you said with four kids it wasn't the best idea. Now it's my turn to have a little fun. I was wanting the tires to stick out a little from the fenders.Do yours? Also getting some conflicting info about that tire size. Later...Umpeta
