PO'd and need some suggestions
So mad right now and looking for advise. My check engine light has been on for about 7 months now and I have had it the code read multiple times. Each time is shows; "small evap leak". Being told this was typical for gas caps, I purchased a new cap at Pep Boys, had the light reset and shortly after that the light comes back on. So I bought another cap at the dealership (about twice as expensive as the one at Pep Boys). Had the light reset and before long it's back on. So now I take it to the dealership. They tell me they ran a smoke test etc. and it needs a purge valve - total cost with labor is $343.29. A week goes by and guess what....light is back on. I go back to the dealership and now they say it needs a "detector - evap system integrit - total cost is $86.74. About another week goes by and low and behold the light comes back on with the exact same code! So now I take it to one of the dealerships other locations and talk to a tech. He states the code is "stored" and they would be throwing parts at it unless it was an "active" code. Tells me to come back in about a month and see if the code has gone active. I have waited about 2 months to take it back and now i need an inspection sticker so I have to get it fixed. The code is still showing stored but they state they don't need it active as the evap system is a closed system. I get a call this morning and now they want another $341 to replace the ESIM switch and gas cap (keep in mind i have already replaced the gas cap). So now i am into this thing for apps $800 for a "small evap leak". I find it next to impossible that 4 different parts have all failed at or near the same time. The fact I have spent $800 on all this makes me super pissed. Am I wrong? What can i do? Keep in mind the two dealerships are under the same name, just different locations. Did I say I was pissed off????
Any advise on what to do would be appreciated.

Sorry to state the obvious, but you need better techs working on you JEEP. You have officially found what I like to call "parts changers".
They don't really know how things work, they just change parts until your Jeep gives you the result you want.
When in a mechanical pickle, always start with the cheapest but most likely culprit. In this case you are well into this but I would suggest looking over all the hoses, from the gas cap forward. Most are rubber with clamps at the connection. Make sure they are all tight and not cracked or compromised.
I don't have any direct experience to relate but some one on here may.
Check the price of the ESIM switch on line to insure you are not paying too much for the part. Labor should be less than an hour I would think, the EVAP is pretty much instantly accessible.

They are using the smoke test and saying these parts are a result of that test. I still believe they are just trowing parts at it while I keep trowing money at it. You stated there are not many tests to verify if the parts are working, other tan the smoke test. I can't afford them to replace the whole emissions system. If the parts they are replacing don't fix the issues, and the exact same code trips, seems like they would not charge me full price for labor or something.
My light came on in my 2012. After trying the gas cap thing, I fixed the problem by simply tweaking the rubber hose that goes to the evap canister. That was over a year ago. Warning never came back. I guess there was a small leak and twisting slightly sealed it up.
You should crawl under your Jeep and visually inspect your canister for cracks. Also look at the little white pump at the back of it. Its in a pretty vulnerable spot and if you have done any wheeling its possible you could have damaged it.

Check your dmv for an exemption, we have a $200 limit spent trying to fix these stupid little leaks if we can not pass inspection. I would ask for a refund from the dealer that is ripping you off.
There are not that many parts to the evap system and could be somthing simple like a loose clamp or hose. I have seen some report the canister under the hood can have the hose rub a small hole in it and cause the error code. I can't belive you are in it for $800, that just seems like robery to me and the main reason I stay away from dealerships. They just swap parts out until it is fixed at total cost to you.
