Default Does your windshield mounted light bar whistle and make tons of noise?

I am looking for a way to transport my kayak with the soft top up, and I am thinking about doing what akoop did in this thread https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-w...rack-184835/#b. He used a Warrior removable light bar, and this looks like it would work, but I am not sure if I will really want to put the light bar on before fishing and take it off after fishing. I think I want to consider a permanently mounted light bar and then bolting a Thule load bar to it using the light mounts.

Here is my solution with the top down, but I am looking to not have to put the top down to transport my kayak to go fishing.

Does anyone here have any experience with the Rugged Ridge light bar with that little lip under the bar?

If I mount a relatively permanent light bar, I am looking for feedback from jkforum members to see if they will whistle and make a ton of noise. If anyone has a light bar reccomendation that might work, please let me know. If anyone has a used one collecting dust, pleas pm me!

i don't have any experience with the Rugged Ridge lightbar, but I do have the original design bar from KMA Fabrications on my Jeep.
This one does not have that little wing the RR bar has.

My lightbar does not whistle. There's barely any extra wind noise, even with the freedom panels off the top, and certainly not enough to hear over the hum of the 35" Cooper STTs.
when I had KMA make it I asked them to set the top bar about an inch taller than they usually do, just so it would be above the roof level. My plan had also been to use it as a way to transport a kayak.

Hope this helps

I think I have seen your posts about this light bar. It looks sweet, but expensive. It looks like RR ripped off their design, but made it in 3 pieces instead of a one piece hoop. If I cheap out and get a light bar that is noisy, then I know I will regret it. If I can't find a cheaper alternative, I might need to get this one. Thanks for posting it.

I have the rugged ridge light bar with lights just like in the picture. It does make a lot of noise. If you have a hard top it's not as bad but with my soft top it's pretty loud.
I'm pretty sure the bar itself has saved my windshield from trees though

Crap, that is what I was afraid of. I only run the hard top between early November and the middle of March, so I would like to find something that isn't too loud. Do you think it is the wind moving around the lights that makes all of the whistling noise?

I bought a 50 inch LED bar and bought the mount system that places it directly over the windshield almost in line with the roof. I got a little whistle at first and then I adjusted the angle of it just a little and it cleared right up. I don't hear anything from it now unless I have a strong crosswind. And even then its far less than the road noise from big tires. I'm trying to find a picture of mine right now for ya.

I have that bar and had it mount for a bit before I added lights. The bar doesn't whistle. The lights and wires on it do. Just turn up the radio

Awesome, that is what I was hoping for. Overall, are you happy enough with its build and finish quality?

Yes I'm pretty sure it's the wind through the lights that makes it whistle
