Default Gear oil change

so today I decided to change out the gear oil on my 2010 jku Sahara. I take out the front plug very few fine shavings everything looks good. take out the rear plug and it's not magnetic has nothing on it obviously. What the hell is with that? Is there an option I missed somewhere or did someone down the line before I got this jeep strip or lose one and swap it out with this non magnetic piece of shit?

Suggest you pick up the proper plug, some RTV sealer or a LubeLocker, and some brake cleaner. Remove the cover, clean out the inside and inspect (it's likely just fine), then put back together and refill.

Just brainstorming, but maybe the drain and fill plugs were reversed or replaced with plain plug like you said.

I thought that too I checked them all plus the fill plugs are a different pattern the square vs hex key somewhat hard to mix them up. I did end up taking everything off all looked good. Ended up just taking much more time than I wanted it to.

A lot of folks recommend visually inspecting inside the diffy every other oil change. That's when you appreciate LubeLockers.

RTV works best, lubelockers are a waste of money but just my opinion. I usually remove the covers every time I change but that's just me, every other would be fine.

been replaced. Get a magnetic plug, put it in there for a couple weeks then change. When you change it, I would do a quick flush with cheap gear oil then refill. You'll be good to go. You can always check the magnetic plug after about a month, or not. It will start accumulating as soon as you put it in there. No real reason to clean it off, but doesn't hurt either if it gives you peace of mind.

Yea I picked up another plug. Still didn't pull much out very tiny amount of flakes so all is good.
