Default Teraflex adjustable tire mount cracked

I started hearing some strange popping noises from the back and figured the adjustable mount was loose......nope. The popping was the fractured metal rubbing. It's carried a stock 18" wheel with a 35" nitto MT for just over a year, so nothing out of the ordinary. Anyone else experienced or seen this occur? I'm glad I investigated before it completely failed and the tire came flying off.

I agree.. call Flex.. seems to a poorly designed area on that carrier.. sort of like AEV with their comment to making sure their products last.. I think it's great companies (more companies) have been stepping up to correct the issues.. I like the idea and they try to incorporate materials that are lighter.. but in some cases.. and it's unclear what the weight limit would be on these.. IE 35's plus a heavy rim.. may have contribute to these types of cracks. but as you've stated above.. 35 and 18's shouldn't make that big of difference..

Call them .. Depending on when you purchased it, TF added a gusset to fix the cracking issue.

I've read about this happeningore than once. Google it. You'll find multiple threads on it. Many will say some are bashing Teraflex, but facts are facts. Your not the first this has happened to.

Sent from some string and a few tin cans.

Definitely not the first person to have this happen to them.

Got with Doug and they have since redesigned the mount to be stronger. They're going to take care of me with a replacement.

Actually we will always take care of anyone that has an issue with these. The trick is to have the spare tire firmly against the tailgate/hinged portion. If the spare jiggles, remove the spare, move the adjustable portion in a 1/4", tighten it and reinstall the spare tire.

FYI for all the doubters/haters, I ran a 37" MTR on a beadlock wheel with the original unbraced version for over 60,000 miles with out failure.
