Default Aluminum Wrangler Likely a Done Deal

It appears the speculation that the Wrangler could be going aluminum is true.

More reports are surfacing that Jeep is planning to go with the lighter body structure as part of the redesign of the iconic SUV to make it more fuel efficient.

Should help eliminate the bubbling hinges too. No more steel on aluminum!

Aluminum + Diesel option would be a nice touch.

Addressing the rust vs pitting issue is all the same uphill battle. Aluminum is the smarter choice however.

Even if they use the 3.0 eco with its 28mpg and 420ftlb of torque, it would go a LONG way when it comes to putting that up against these pour v6 gassers we're all in now.

If they manage not to completely murder the vintage exterior styling. It sounds like they are headed in the right direction IMO..

The frame will remain steel -- [GASP] -- unless they go unibody. I can't wait until they offer the brushed aluminum finish on the body, though. If we could just eliminate the EPA entirely, this whole MPG problem would disappear.
