Default Installing Poison Spyder fenders...

Ok so I ordered the poison spyder fenders a while ago, the tears came right away and the fronts just shipped

I'll be installing the set next weekend and I'm looking for any tips from people who have already installed them...

The directions are pretty straightforward with the exception of the nutserts

They sell a nutserts tool for almost $200 for a tool that I'll only use for one day

I'm wondering if anyone rents it out, or can you survive without it? I just want to do it right

Matthew

When I installed mine i tried the "tool" that psc supplies and really hated it. I went out and bought a westward rivet gun like this one from grainger. WESTWARD Rivet NutGun,10-24,1/4-20,5/16-18,3/8-16 - Rivet Tools - 5TUW5|5TUW5 - Grainger Industrial Supply
It made it super easy to get them in consistently. (wont pull threads to one side or the other)
I was also installing rear fenders and the corner armor so i had a lot to put in. The front doesn't have TOO many nutserts so you could probably get away with it.

Do yourself a big favor and buy a decent tool. We got this one and it was worth every $.

I bought the $150 Marson tool. Worth every dollar. That said, I had more than one Jeep to do and help other guys out for a small fee.

I know a lot of people who cheaped out on the tool. The reason I know them is they drive their Jeep over to have me weld their nutsert so it won't spin. Hahaha

I would agree the tool they set me and my friend used one on 2 rigs. Also did body armor. It broke half way through. Did you get narrow or full width?

full width

i need it to pass inspection, even with my factory wheels/tires

plus it makes my MTR /K's 37x12.5x17 stick out less to hopefully reduce any vehicle tickets

also, it turned out a good friend of mine who's a machinist/fabricator has a complete kit of all the Nutsert things you could ever need

Can be done with nut and bolt tool they supply, just grease the bolt. Insert tool is a lot quicker but can break if over pulled.

Rivnuts can be installed with a bolt and a few nuts and washers if you are patient. You can use the bolt to crush the rivnuts down just as the tool would, but it can be a pain. Ive installed several using that method but if you have dozens to do, a tool is worth it.

We have a nice pnuematic one where I work but its like an $800 tool.
