Has anyone here ever sprayed black paint over plasti-dip? I'm thinking about doing it to get a more uniform color. For whatever reason I can't get my plasti-dip to give off a uniform shine.

 

I recently came from the 4runner world and there were a couple guys that did this on their wheels. It turned out great from what they said. Plus they were still able to peel the PD off later. This was also before PD came out with a "glossifier" coating.

I just went back on the 4runner forum to confirm and now it looks like a lot of guys have done this. They were able to really "dial" in the color they were looking for.

Yep it's already lookin good, sunny day in Colorado has it setting up nicely! I'll post pics later.

 

I don't think that's a good idea. Once the paint curse, it'll just chip when you try to peal it

 

That's exactly what will happen!

It will be a pain to take off after you spray paint the plastidip.

 

That's not what the guys said on the 4runner forum. I came from the 4runner side prior to getting back into a Jeep and this was fairly common. They have been doing this for years on their wheels and had no problems peeling the PD off later. The PD acts as a protectant from the spray-paint and still remains pliable underneath.

 

It's not my jeep. Have at it. If the OP is insistent on doing it, I recommend doing a test project and let the paint fully cure and try to remove it. If it comes off great, if it doesn't then he knows from first hand experience
