Default Gears

I will be moving up to 35" tires on my 2010 2dr auto and I was recommended 5.13 gears by a offroad shop near by just wondering what you guys think is that too much for 35s I know the 3.8l lacks power

This is a common ratio for 35's on the automatic since the 3.8L is so lacking in power.

It depends on all the specifics of location and use and personal opinion, but as noted, 5.13 is a very common recommendation. (there are about a bajillion other gearing threads to browse through for more opinions).

And if you open the FAQ's stuck to the top of this modified area and scroll down, you will find some good rpm charts. Jut measure the tires and plug some numbers in to see where you will be.

I just installed rubi axles in my 2010 JKU sport auto that have 5.13 gears. That gearing is ideal in my opinion. You don't say if your rig is a rubicon or not. If not, the D30 might not hold up too good and 4.88 might be a better choice and work fine with the 2 door.

I'm running 34's with 4.56 gears on my 2010 dr. They are a nice size but 4.88 would have given me a little more power. I dont see a lot of hills or steep terrains so they work for me. When your ready to purchase them check out 4ws.com, they beat everyones price by a lot when I bought mine.

I have a 2011 sport auto. I went from stock gears with 35s to 5.13s with 35s. That gearing was prefect in my opinion. I went to 37s and could use lower gears but it is not bad. Do not go any less than 5.13 (numerically) or you will regret it.
