Default 6spd with 33-35s -- 4.56 or 4.88s?

I'm currently running 33s with 4.10s. It's alright around town, but a real drag on the highway when you're loaded with gear -- I have to down-shift on the hills. I may eventually run 33s in winter and 35s in summer too, which complicates things I guess. :-)

So... What are people running with the 6spd and 33s?

I think the 4.56s are rather new, so has anyone installed them yet? What was your impression afterwards -- especially for highway RPMs and hills in 6th gear?

Thanks!

If you are going to 35's during summers the go with the 4.88s at least (or most, whatever the terminology is); if not the 5.13s

5.13??? Hm. According to Shrockwork's gear calculator, that would mean 3291 RPM in 6th gear at 75 MPH on 33s. That's pretty high.... The noise from my Magnaflow exhaust would start to annoy me real quick at those RPMs.

If I check the RPMs at 75 MPH, the gear calculator gives me:

2630 using 4.10s on 33s (my current setup).
2975 using 4.56s on 33s
3130 using 4.88s on 33s
2758 using 4.56s on 35s
2951 using 4.88s on 35s

Granted those numbers look a little higher than real life. I think we're doing 2300-2500 RPMs on the highway. I should probably look at 70 MPH for a more accurate picture.... So, that would mean:

2455 using 4.10s on 33s (my current setup).
2730 using 4.56s on 33s
2922 using 4.88s on 33s
2574 using 4.56s on 35s
2755 using 4.88s on 35s

Using 4.56s, I'd be going from 2455 to 2574 in summer (on 35s) and 2730 in winter (on 33s). Not a big difference in summer, but I probably don't want to go much above 2700 RPM in the winter anyway.

So, you guys with 6spds, 33s, and new gears, what's your experience?

Though I suppose I don't do 75 often (more like 55-65)
I'll have to double check, but 2455 RPMs at 70 MPH (113 KPH) sounds about right...

Well I have the same setup as you 4.10, 33" tires 2.5" lift.

If I was going to spend the money I would more than likely go 5.13 because I occasionally tow a jetski or my boat and tow at least once a week a landscape trailer full of home depot or lowes junk. I'd want the extra torque I'm just not sure what this will do to the axle and drivelines over time. I'm expected the front axle will have a little issue or two being a dana30 on mine.

I have been running the 4.56's for about 2 months now and i love them with my 35's. I tow a 5x8 trailer with 2 quads on it just fine, it tows my seadoo's just fine and has enough power to yank my 20' boat around just have to use 3rd on the big hills just like i did with my TJ. Now i have the hypertech chip, exhaust, and pure jeep CAI also. When i get 37's i am gonna go 5.13's but for 35's its fine on my 2dr.

Just for the record .... I had to put my stock tire 32.3 inch tall back on for fuel economy purposes....Could not see running my rock crawling gear on the highway anyways !!

My Jeep likes 2000 RPM and the higher ( read faster ) I go the worse the fuel economy gets

I was doing 60 mph ( 2250 rpm) and getting 21.5 mpg and 65 mph ( 2600rpm ) dropped like 1.5ish mpg and 70 ( 2850 rpm ) and dropped 2 mpg more total 3.5ish ......

So I set the cruise at 65 and let everyone else fly by me and my trip stayed around 20ish mpg.....

your specs Hulk are just like mine. If I stay at 60 I get awesome MPG it quickly decreases beyond that. I'm around the same marks but no exact science here since we don't have the RPm digitized to see actual. (do I smell mod)
