Default Cooper STT vs TOYO M/T

Well.....I am down to 2 choices of tires for my wife's JK looking at

Cooper STT VS TOYO Open Country M/T

in a 295/75R17 which with Cooper and Toyo's works out to 33.5"x12.0"R17.

I have run Toyo M/T's on my Diesel and have been extremely pleased with the tire and wear and has passed the wife test for highway road noise. I know the Cooper is a D rated 8 ply vs E load 10 ply for Toyo.

However, I have not run the Cooper STT.

How do the STT's compare to the Toyo M/T?
My biggest concern between the two tires is Tire Weight......Now what is the weight difference between the two?? The JK has 6 speed 3:73 rear.
I am not sure if the weight will make much of a difference maybe 30lbs total including spare??

How is the Cooper STT for road noise on the highway???
How is the treadwear on the Cooper STT???

Thanks,

TripleJeep!!

Hey, triplejeep;
I just installed Cooper STT LT275/70R18's on mine. I liked the shape of the tire better than the Toyo's. I have a little vibration on initial roll but after that it feels great. There is no noise to speak of. I am very impressed! I know a guy with a toyota truck that has the Coopers and he has gotten 70k out of his tires. They are just about done.
My coopers weigh 6 lbs lighter each than the Toyo's so like you said, it is about 30 lbs but between the weight and tire differential, I feel it when taking off. I went from a 32" to the 33.35".
It is recommended that when you rotate these you cross the fronts to the back and bring the backs straight forward. I'm running 35 psi and will probably drop it a couple lbs.
I just installed the Hypertech programming this morning but feel the difference in take-off and also saw the MPG start to rise.

Thanks SBlair.....and Luigi....appreciate the write-up and stats on both tires. I think I will try the Cooper's for price and weight. I have been thinking about the Hypertech as well for an upgrade later this year. I will PM you sometime down the road SBlair and see how you have liked the programmer.

Thanks again for the write-up guys!

I've got the Coopers on mine and I like 'em. Pics in my project gallery (35's though).

Thanks! The pics aren't very good, but I do like the tires. My brother has 33's on his Dodge truck and has gotten great mileage out of them. I decided on the Coopers after driving his truck for a day. They are a lot quieter than I'd expected them to be.

DAMN IT....Cooper has no STT 295/70R17's in stock for another 1 month. Any JK owners with the Toyo M/T's how have the 10 ply worked for Daily Driver's, stiffer ride??? Any issues with the heavier tire???
