Default mickey thompson or maxxis

I want to go with one of these tires, but I don't know which one. It would be for 90% on roading and 10%off roading. The mickey thompson baja radial mtx tires are nice, but the tread isn't too deep, is this a bad thing for me? The Maxxis Big Horn Radial tire is also nice, and the treads are a little deeper, but I know that Mickey Thompsons have been around a while. Is it true, that the deeper the tread and more aggressive it is, the worse gas mileage im going to get because it creates more friction? (I was told something like that)

I love the MT's. Great tire off road but a little slick in icy conditions. They dont really have any siping. Of course, you could always sipe them yourself. I had a rental jeep in moab last June with 33" Maxxis bighorns and they were great on the dry rocks, but if your 10% off road is in slick or muddy stuff go with the Mickey thompson.

I have the Bighorns on my DD and really like them for an all around tire. I have never bought the same tire twice, there are just too many to choose from and I want to try them all. I like the Bighorns enough to consider buying them again.

I do like the look of the MTs though.

I have to agree with the BF Goodrich comment. You'll get FAR better wear, and not much difference offroad.

You may be right. But I think he is wanting a more aggressive look and is trying to decide between the mickey's or maxxis(s)

Now I know we all love to have tires that wear slow, but half the fun of having big ol' mud tires is getting new ones!LOL

Living in central Canada, I've experienced a bit of everything weather wise, snow-ice-rain, etc.
My MT Baja MTZs have exceeded my expectations. They handle my once a month wheeling excursions and also have been great daily drivers.
