I just took a new job. I commute 80miles daily. My jeep is my daily. I currently run 35 inch kumho road venture m/t. I am getting 14mpg highway. If I could get 16-18mpg I would be happy. Would switching to a less aggressive All terrain 35 inch tire help or should I go down to 33's?

 

I get 15.5 MPG around town on my 35s according to the lie-o-meter. I haven't bothered to do the math. I have an auto with 3.73s. I also reprogrammed tire size in the computer. I hardly ever ride on the highway except for vacations.

Did you reprogram tire size? What gears do you have? Did you regear? How did you measure your mileage? All of these things would impact gas mileage.

 

Current set up is a 2014 Rubicon X. 4.10 gears. Manual trans. Calculated by math at the pump

How fast are you driving? I get 17-17.5 on the interstate on my 4-door with 37s @ 70-73 MPH, but if I go 75 or more it's down to 15-ish.

Unfortunately I have found many 2-doors actually get worse MPG than the 4s. I think (more like guess) this is besause there is much more tire scrub because the Jeep is getting knocked around more by winds.

We can't get more then 15.5 out of out 2-door on 35s but it has the 3.8L

 

Well I would say yes. I have a 13 with 35in nitto trail graps and get average of 14. If I go around 60 I can get 17. My brothers 13 in 35in falken wild peaks get 16.5 average. At's have less Rollin resistance

 

I would expect better mileage than that. I know the winter blend of gas will cost you 2 or 3 MPG. If that's not the problem then I would say going back to stock tire size will help the most. Reprogramming tire size should help. Even though it won't adjust shift points for you it is used in many other calculations by the computer. At least that's what I've read.

 

I have a 4 door Rubi with 35's, 4.10s and AT and get 13.5 - 14 mgp in Town and maybe 15 - 15.5 on the highway but I do drive 70-75 on the highway. You may have to go back to stock tire size to get the mileage you are looking for and/or reduce your speed below 60.

2011 JKU 6 speed w/ 35 BFG A/T's - averaging 16mpg's between city and highway

 

I have a '13 JKR, 6spd M, Hard top, 2.5" lift, 35x12.50-17 BFG KM2's, 5.13's, fully armored (all steel) with PSC bumpers/sliders/body and full meal deal of Synergy HD skids. So, as 2drs go it's pretty heavy.
I drive 125 miles a day, 62.5 miles one way (duh) ~5 city miles at 45-50mph, ~25 miles at 70mph, ~25 miles at 75mph and ~7 miles at 60mph.
I routinely get low 16mpg.
When I'm not in a hurry, I drive ~5 city miles at 45-50mph, ~25 miles at 65mph, ~25 miles at 70mph and ~7 miles at 60mph.
I routinely get low 18mpg.
Around town I routinely get mid 18mpg.

Before all the armor, but with the lift/tires/gears, I was getting low-mid 18mpg in a hurry, low-mid 19 driving the slower rate.

I would suggest a re-gear.
