I have an 08 JK 2dr that's in the body shop to fix somw trail damage and I thought as long as it was there I might as well have them do the fenders for me. I think the stock JK fenders are about the ugliest things ever manufactured.

Does anyone have any experience with specific brands they'd like to share? Plastic vs Steel or even aluminum? One issue I have heard is at least one brand will not sell you replacement hardware if you happen to snap something on the trail. Stuff like that is helpful too.

PSC and Genright make nice fenders. Steel will add 200 lbs to your rig. You can also look at trimming the stock ones.

 

There are a few flat fender threads in the show & tell section, I'd start looking there.

I trimmed my stock ones and really think they are the best for my application. It took me a few hours to trim and didn't cost me a dime. Instead of bending or damaging the body, they simply flex or pop off if you rub a tree or rock without damaging anything. You can buy the replacement clips from the stealership for a few bucks a piece.

I have seen smittybilt xrc fender flares

They will give you high clearance and they are so narrow

 

These are the smitty bilt xrc flares at stock height with 35's

 

Xenon Wide-Flat Flares. I had to go wide to get tire coverage between spacers and backspacing changes. I did destroy one on the trail and ordered a replacement no problem. It flexed a huge amount before it finally broke. Not Xenon's issue at all, I had it up against a tree. I bought the originials used, they came with the plexiglass supports used to keep them from getting droopy when they soften in the heat. Sanded them down, self-etching primer, couple of coats of spray on bedliner later:
