Default AEV 2.5" : use or don't use an additional .75" coil spacers? opinions please.

After searching and some reading I still need a little more convincing. Why should I not use a .75" spacer on my '09 JKU?

I have the stock front and rear bumpers with a Smitty 8K winch on the front and my rear has been converted to a 7.5 gallon water storage tank.

I see that some JKU's are getting about 3" of lift from the 2.5 and they are not using the high steer kit. With a 4 door and and extra 60 pounds on the front and rear I can't imagine that I would get 3" from the 2.5 so by adding a .75" spacer I would be getting to the 3" area.

So why OR why not to use the spacer??

I will be getting the drop brackets either way.

most likely your jeep will look like it is squatting if you add 3/4" to the 2.5" aev kit without any real additional weight. AEV builds their kits to give the lift with their bumpers so you will be way under that weight with a stock front bumper. I would install your kit and if for some reason you need more height up front then add it then.

I installed the Aev kit without any additional spacers and love it.

Why not install the coils, let them settle, and then decide if you want to add spacers. Makes more sense than guessing based on other peoples results - other people with different builds and different weights...

You could end up with 1/4" instead of 3/4" to level it, or rear spacers, or maybe you'll like a little rake.

Screw it. Install it. You can always take it out. Also. Why wait. Make a decision. Execute.

I am asking only because I will be having the work done at the dealership ( a must to keep my LIFETIME warrenty) so it would be easier to take them off than to install them using a return visit.

However if the suggestions weigh out that it's a generally bad idea then not doing it is the easiest choice.

PS I will be running a 33x12.5x15 Duratrac. Any pictures of a JUK with the 2.5 and 33's?

JK Show & Tell. There are huge pic threads covering any combination you want.

Use this in google, followed by what you want to search on. " show 33's ", " 2.5" and 33's ", whatever

If you plan on taking your Jeep off highway then I'd strongly recommend against the AEV drop brackets, especially if you play in the rocks.

I'm in Moab twice a year playing on Fin's and Hell's and maybe Kane Creek but I always take the 'easy' route when possible, not only because this is my DD but because we purchased it in '09 (last year of the lifetime warranty) with the express intent of keeping it for LIFE. meaning that it will be handed down to my son in 8 years and if he continues to treat it right he can keep it for his life....if not I will take it back.

At $279.00 vs. $99.00 my choice is clear. I also believe that my dealership, which I actually have high praise for because of their customer service, would replace the lower control arms if they were damaged to the point of needing replacement for safety reasons (pretty broad definition in their book) and I am hoping that AEV would do the same. That is why I chose to have my dealer do the install.

All of that being said I am not opposed to the LCA's as an alternative fix in the future if needed. (it's all about cost at this point in time.)
