Undercoating metal flares question - when painting body match color
Question for the guys who run metal flares and body match paint.
I have a white JKU and am getting my PS crusher flares painted match white. The painter suggested undercoating underneath (the bottom inside of the flare). Do you prime, then undercoat and then rattle match white underneath. Short of it, i dont want the bottom of my fender black and the top white and also want to make sure i do any rust prevention I can.....
Sorry for what might be a dumb question but I just don't have any experience with this.

The only dumb questions are those that are never asked.
If you are receiving them painted then the guy is talking about undercoating and It's not a hard coat paint. Go to NAPA/UAP and ask for a couple of spray cans of 'black-out' or 'undercoat' . The factory uses this stuff sprayed on by robots in wheel wells and most areas on chassis exposed to gravel problems.
The stuff is a soft sticky coating that sacrifices rather than the metal taking the hits. Bed liner is hard and brittle and will chip off in wheel wells. Truck beds look good with bedliner because they don't have stones chucked at them at the speed of spinning wheels.
Then again...your choice

Thank you for all the feedback...I appreciate it.
I want to keep underneath white so I guess it will be undercoat then rattle can white.....i guess it will be easy to touch up too when needed.
I like the linex idea too....never thought of that.

It won't stay white for long. It gets pretty dirty fast and the upkeep could drive you nuts.
