Default Ripp superchargering a jk with 75k

Am i just going to be strapping a cannon to a sinking ship? Would it be worth the money to supercharge this engine or just live with it until it dies (if thats soon)

Your analogy made me laugh!

In all honesty, there is no guarantee how long these 3.8's will last. Mine is up around 114,000 with no issues yet. Just don't be surprised if it pukes early with the added stress. Take care of your motor and make sure you keep watch for signs of problems (knocks & noise).

I'm sure Ripp will chime in with some more technical data.

Honestly if I was you I'd find a wrecked ram with a 5.7 and rebuild it and get the AEV Hemi swap kit. If you can get a engine for around 2k and the kit is 5.5k, the Ripp kit is already 5200. You could get a lot more power out of a 5.7 than a mini van motor with a blower for the extra cost of a motor if you do the work yourself. If you're paying a shop though, the SC is probably a little cheaper. I have a 3.6 though, so I don't know everything about the 3.8. When my engine finally blows(it's already leaking oil with 17k on a 2 year old vehicle, so I know it will at some point), I'm thinking about trying to get a Coyote 5.0 to work in it.

Yeah thats a great suggestion. I dont know if i would be able to swap it myself, that seems a bit daunting. Would i need a new tranny as well? (I have a manual) also what would it take to rebuild a 5.7?

That I don't know. They are both Chrysler so the bell housings should be similar, but there are places out there that make adapter plates. Manuals are easier too, because you don't have to worry about the transmission going into limp mode.

It's going to end up costing at least twice the cost of the supercharger, probably three times. It will probably be more desirable and reliable though

I installed my SC at 73k miles. I have put 2k miles in it and is still purring. I only paid $2,500 so it was an easy decision

We've seen the 3.8's to be very resilient. Owners of our kits with high mileage have reported installation on rigs with 100,000 miles and then driving nearly an additional 100,000 miles thereafter! As with any engine modification we ask that you run through a preliminary checklist before going forward.
  • Compression Test On All Cylinders
  • Inspect engine for any leaks and repair
  • Does the engine burn any fluids?
  • Coolant flush is recommended
  • Fresh coolant hoses
  • Fresh O2 sensors
  • Fresh Spark Plug wires
  • Inspect exhaust manifolds for leaks
  • Inspect spark plugs

With our kit, a fresh set of spark plugs, injectors, and belt are included standard so you will not need to purchase these. We focus on building reliable and safe Jeeps that can be daily driven. Unlike our competitors, the vehicle is only running 2-3psi on low boost when driving around town. The vehicle runs full boost only once the throttle is wide open in a smooth linear torque curve. Lastly, a solid trans cooler is recommended.

Questions welcome
