Rubicon 44 vs X 44 Rear End
I was told that the ring and pinon on a Rubicon 44 was different than the X/Sahara 44. Is this true? I'm trying to find some 4.10s and want to be an educated shopper. Thanks
"Next generation Dana 44 heavy duty solid rear axle has a larger ring gear, stiffer and stronger housing, and larger pinion bearings to handle added torque requirements."
I looked to see how the '07 4.10 Sahara axle was described, but couldn't find anything.
The '08 Rubicon window sticker also says "Next Generation Dana 44".
Does anyone have a window sticker from an '07 Sahara with 4.10 axle?
The only major difference I'm aware of is 32 spline for the Rubi D44, 30 spline for the standard D44.
All Jeeps get the "Next generation Dana 44 heavy duty axle", so the ring, etc should all be the same.

If I remember correctly, regardless of which model you get, you get a D44 in the rear. Now the gears will very and the front axle will vary, but I think all JK's have a D44 in the rear. Now, the ring and pinion gears will work no matter which D44 you have, whether it’s a 30 or 32 spline. I could sell my 4.10 to someone in an X with the 3.21's and they'd work in the rear, but not the front cause of the D30. if you have D44's front and rear, you're fine, but if you have something different in the front, you'll need to buy the gears for that axle model.
So yes, the gear set you want to buy should work if they are built for that model axle. thats why sites list them for axle model rather then jeep model. Now if you were upgrading the axle shafts, that'd be a different story...
